ooc: The other group is also going to be able to reach Maoleth unmolested.

The tavern in question is the Iron Lotus.

[sblock=Interior Description, shamelessly stolen from ukingsken]In place of roughly hewn, 3 inch thick boards for tables and chairs, the furniture here is meticulously carved, almost sculpted. Each table has the lotus motif repeated on the legs and dragon claws for feet. The bar itself is a masterwork of cherry wood, the lip of the bar itself forming the crest of a wave that rises from the floor.[/sblock]

[sblock=From Perception]You can't tell if anyone recognizes you. Since you merely passed by the town before, it seems unlikely that anyone would. However, Maoleth is a small town, and everyone realizes that you're outsiders.[/sblock]

[sblock=From Streetwise]With a couple well placed questions to the hadnful of tavern patrons, you learn that some villagers have been taken from within their own homes after the gates have closed. Many worry that the Oni have established a cabal within the confines of Maoleth itself. However, the lord of the town, Kiro Hashteth, has been quick to dismiss any such notions.

The bard mentioned before was almost certainly Sekura, a woman of no small talent. However, it does not appear that she is performing tonight.

You also get the sense that some sort of malaise has spread over the town, but you can't determine the cause.[/sblock]

Cheysuli Sage

Upon finally reaching the town gates, Cheysuli lets out a relieved sigh, and absent-mindedly drops her end of the stretcher. She takes in a deep breath and shouts up to the guards on the palisade; "Ho, guards!! We have dealt with your kobold problem, it was a job and a half though, and we are all quite knackered. What say you let us in and take this 'proof' from us so we can rest up and prepare to meet with your lord? There is much we have learned, there is a spy in your mid..."
Chey clamps her hand over her mouth in feigned shock at her deliberately hasty mouth. A sly wink lets Bren and Miranna know what she is playing at; trying to make it seem as though she should not have mentioned the spy.

[sblock=OOC]Bluff check (1d20+11=29)
If one, or both of you guys could admonish Chey for speaking out it would complete the effect;) after all, we want the spy to think that we are on to him, or her... or it, i suppose.[/sblock]

True, but finding her gives us an important source of information about this place. Bards see quite a number of people and usually have no reason not to tell the truth. She looked around. But I think we should get a room and try to find more information about this cult.

[sblock=OOC]Still waiting on my history check and then we'll have more[/sblock]

[sblock=On Sekura]You also hear that she is not the traveling minstrel type of bard. Rather, she is local talent (ie, she lives in Maoleth). She doesn't spend every night performing in the Iron Lotus, so her absence is not necessarily suspicious.[/sblock]

[sblock=History, on Cults]It’s not enough for the Oni to be a military threat to the Kingdom of Jade. They are also working to destabilize their society, for while it would be a great victory to conquer the Kingdom, it would be even greater to have its people willingly submit to the shadow. As such, several of the more powerful Oni have founded cults dedicated to themselves within the Kingdom itself. While the current philosophy of self-denial makes recruiting difficult, there are still those willing to listen. The cults target those who are dissatisfied with the current status-quo: Genasi who desire their previous influence, human merchant families who desire to advance their station, or Tieflings who are already suspected of being in league with the shadow. These cults are widespread and highly decentralized, and while the authorities have apprehended many cells, they are no closer to finding the roots of the corruption.[FONT=&quot]

However, you have not heard of Zal'Ekthees before. And Maoleth is too small a town for you to have knowledge of any specific cults operating within its borders.[/sblock]

edit:

[sblock=To the other group]If one of you wants to aid other with Chey's bluff, feel free to do so.[/sblock]

Unfortunately for us, garnering information on this cult is going to take considerable effort on our part. It looks as if they gather initiates on a grassroots level and there appears to be no centralised orginisation that we can inquire upon. However, we may have some luck with uncovering initiates, I know little specfics but have a fair idea on where we should go. She looks about carefully. We need to get a room somewhere in town and find some of the local merchants. There are materials I need to purchase, that would give us a start...and we will need some sort of pretense to explain our questions. Perhaps we are looking for one of the dissappeared, what do you think Yishim?

[sblock=Perception check]I'm rolling to see if anyone is watching us. Perception (1d20+1=21) YES![/sblock]

[sblock=OOC Firete/Yishim]Remember that you guys are trying to get hired into the cult, if you're looking for one of the disappeared, it should be for nefarious reasons, like they owe someone money or something.[/sblock]
