The Jade Frontier, part 2 (DM: THB, Judge: Lord Sessadore)

Yishim reaches deep within his mind to unleash a flurry of fiery doom upon the goblins. While many shrug off his first attack, the second catches Malgrim unawares to great effect. When the flames die down, two of the smaller goblins lay dead and burnt on the ground.
[sblock=Actions]Standard: Scorching Burst on -A, 17 Hits and kills only Cutter 18 :-(
Move: A21
Action Point: Scorching Burst on -A,12 Rolls Kills Cutter 74, Crits Malgrim for 15 - is it a d6 for a +1 orb, right? That should slightly help Chey back there. Sorry I couldn't clear more minions - after my re-build of Yishim I'll have enlarge spell which will be great.[/sblock]

Malgrim screams in pain as he is engulfed by arcane fire. He glares angrily at Chey, madness in his eyes, and rushes behind her as one of his surviving cohorts follows him. He swings his club in a wide arc and catches Chey in the ribs. The attack has a surprising amount of force from such a small creature. Chey nearly drops, and feels unconsciousness looming nearby. Luckily, the other goblin is completely incapable of piercing Chey's multitude of defenses.

The goblins in the hallway howl in rage at Brenwar's challenge and try to drag him down in a sea of rusted weapons and filthy claws. However, between the paladin's martial skill, the favor of his god, and the timely intervention of Miranna as she skewers a charging goblin, Brenwar is bloodied but unbowed.

Another pair of smaller goblins emerge into view at the end of the secret passage from where the adventurers entered Malgrim's chambers. They appear to be very out of breath, but the thought of skewering some humans will put some spring in their step.

[sblock=Status]Initiative:
Malgrim (-34, bloodied, Cursed)
Warrior 30 (Sanctioned)
Warrior 76 (Divine Challenged)
Warrior 81
Warrior 86 (-16, Sanctioned, if Miranna or Chey hit him they gain 3 thp.)
Cutter 24
Cutter 36 (Sanctioned)
Cutter 40 (Sanctioned)
Cutter 96
Yishim (22/22+4)
Firete (20/28)
Cheysuli (6/31, bloodied, Concealed, +4 to all defenses, slowed, -2 to AoOs)
Brenwar (13/35, bloodied, +2 to all defenses, 3 resist all)
Miranna (35/35+4)

That was a very brave thing for Brenwar to do. Let's see if his god is impressed. Also, I think Sanction would overwrite Challenge. The order hardly mattered in this case, but it might for some reason in the future.

Yishim is the only one who would qualify for Virtue of Valor, and he already has the temp hp. Sorry... Nevermind! Read on, dear player. Read on.

Goblin Shuffle recharges, so Malgrim uses it again. He shifts to -E12 and Warrior 81 shifts to -C12. And then he cudgels Chey. Uh, that's a crit. Chey takes 19 damage, is slowed, and takes -2 to AoOs.

Warrior 30 moves to A12 and javelins Brenwar, misses. The first of many, I'm sure.

Warrior 76 stabs Brenwar for damage, or at least, he would have if not for the defense bonus.

[Intermission]

Warrior 81 shames his family with this pathetic attack against Chey.

[/Intermission]

Warrior 86 pulls through, hitting AC 26 for 8 damage. Or 5 damage, since Brenwar has resist 3. Brenwar is bloodied.

Better roll those minion attacks. That 1-2 damage could add up. Cutter 36 hits for a staggering 2 damage. Thank you, Minion Sneak Attack! Cutter 40 charges Brenwar through Miranna's threatened space, which was sort of a mistake. Miranna will get Virtue of Valor's temp hp.

So, who was carrying the healing potions?[/sblock]

[sblock=Monster Info]Here's what you know:

Malgrim
AC ?? | Fort ?? | Reflex 17 | Will 15
MBA: +9 vs AC, 1d6+3 damage, target is slowed and takes a -2 penalty to opportunity attacks until the end of Malgrim's next turn.

MBA: +6 vs AC, 1d8+2 damage

Miranna could hear the sounds of combat from the corner where Chey had gone- things didn't sound good. "I'll be back- don't get dead," she rasped in elven. Then she stepped forward through the press of enemies, trying to catch up with Chey- and with Malgrim...

OOC: Guess we'll see just how good Brenwar's sanction/mark is. Not going to roll for enemy AoOs- but I think they're just damage and can't stop her movement. Shame I won't have an action left to Aegis Malgrim...

>Move: -A 18, -B 17, -A 16, -A 15, -A 14, -A 13
>Standard: Charge Malgrim; -A 12, -B 11, -C 11, -D 11; MBA against Malgrim, +9 vs. AC= 13 (miss, but gives him something else to think about) ; roll http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2442892/

[sblock=Technically...]Well, the move as you described it is illegal. You wouldn't be able to move from -B17 to -A18, since you can't go diagonal through hard corners. However...[/sblock]

Miranna initially finds the press of bodies to strong to push through. However, she notices that the northern path hooks to the west. Indeed, she when she goes north, she sees Chey and Malgrim fighting at the end of the hall.

[sblock=So now...]Miranna finishes her charge in -E13 or -D13. I'll assume the latter unless you express a preference.[/sblock]

As she rushes past, one of the tougher goblins stabs her in the side with a spear. Miranna barely notices, and the goblin is hit by a blinding light.

[sblock=AoO]Warrior 76 will take the AoO, the others won't. He hits for 7 damage, so Miranna's at 32/35, and then he takes the Sanction damage, which is 7 I believe oh silly me. 76 wasn't Sanctioned; he was Challenged. Which apparently is the same damage as Challenge. Weird, I thought it was more. Anyway, Miranna takes 7, he takes 7, it's a very "eye for an eye" moment.[/sblock]

OOC: -D 13 is fine. Would be even better if the to-hit rolls were falling the right way- guess it makes up for some serious hits in the last 2 fights.

Next!

Brenwar answers Miranna, "I'll do my best, just don't go doing anything foolish." Brenwar feeling the full power of his deity continues to battle the foul goblin. He repeatedly batters down its defenses leaving it staggered before landing the killing blow with his hammer. He then steps back to stand near Firete, taking only a moment to heal himself before preparing for the next wave of enemies. He glances over, "I pray Palladys is with us" as he looks over the goblins.
[sblock=Combat Actions and the "Plan"]
I vote Firete and I deal with the Warrior 86 first (if I didn't just kill it), hopefully Yishim can kill those two( or 2+) cutters coming this way. Then we can focus fire on warrior 76 (while Yishim continues to deal with this cutter issue). Hopefully we get over to our two allies before they are bloody pastes on the ground (or they come save us, either way really).

Standard Action: Valorous Smite on Warrior 86 (1d20+10=21, 2d10+5=20) Which once again marks all in close burst 3. Which should override that divine challenge (hopefully stopping me from losing it next round).
Minor Action: Lay on Hands (me) (Granting me the 3/- again)
Action Point->Standard Action: Virtuous Strike on Warrior 86 (1d20+10=20, 1d10+5=12) Since that hit gives me a +1 all defenses and +2 saving throws until the start of my next turn. (Not factored in)
Move Action: Shift to -A19

The sudden appearance of Miranna gives Chey the opportunity to sidestep Malgrim and quickly glug a potion before poking the cudgel wielding manic in the back and sticking her tongue out at him.

I have the impression that our luck is turning, Brenwar, says Firete, putting away her wand to allow her to cast. Stay back, I will blast our way through. Flames fly from her fingertips but they only scorches the one on the right.

[sblock=Actions] Minor, put away wand. Blazing Starfall on Warrior 76 (1d20+5=9) Blazing Starfall on Cutter 36 (1d20+5=19) Damage (1d4+5=7) That's a total of 8 damage with the 1 fire damage.[/sblock]

She looks quickly back. and shouts to the wizard Yishim, how is the situation back there? I would hate if these goblins attacked us from both sides!

[sblock=TwoHeads]I haven't used it yet, but Majestic Word has been errated since I did the sheet. The range was originally ten but I can't seem to find the range of the new version. We going by the old verison or the new, whatever that is?[/sblock]
