D&D 5E The Kalarian Precipice - Chapter Four

Carthum One-Tusk: Four sides

"Do you yield?" Carthum snarls, but sadly, he does not give the imp much time to respond!

"Parsulu! Your radiance!" And he drives his mace against his shield. Brilliant light once more suffuses the area- his comrades are perhaps becoming used to being dazzled!

Praise Suru's justice, that he sent his orcish servant to spread his light so far into the depths!

<Channel divinity: radiance of the dawn! 12 radiant damage to hostile creatures within 30 feet of Carthum, half on a successful constitution check>

Jeovanna

Jeovanna: Four sides

There is something quite strange, really, about traveling with spell-casters. After not seeing magic for her whole life, suddenly being in the presence of so much of it should perhaps rattle the bones more than it does.

But Jeovanna actually finds it quite inspiring to have it on their side! The crackling energy and brilliant flash has now become familiar, and even as Carthum's light strikes, she strikes with her blade.

Perhaps she could have swung at the imp, tried to take him down, but in truth... Jeovanna was far more concerned about that spider. The only reason she did not have goosebumps facing it down was because Carthum's bright light and the heat of the path of flames chased them away!

<To hit with advantange= 15. Damage 8>

The Imp shrieks as blinding light saturates the surrounds, holiness burns much like fire! He trembles with razor sharp teeth chattering, body shaking like a child left out in a winter's rain. He's on the edge... the edge of life and extinction.

Carthum's radiance gets quite a reaction from the rat too, its head rearing back in shock and paws raised as though to protect it from the light. The spider? Despite having eight eyes, it doesn't react quite so harshly. Hurt, for sure, just not as much as the others.

<Carthum would notice that it took a hell of a lot of radiance to hurt these three, almost like they have some innate advantage against spell-related saving throws. This was negated for the Imp by Metea's Constitution curse... nice teamwork! Rat save = 8 (Fail). Spider save = 18 (Pass). Imp save = 6 (Fail).>

Dain - Four Sides

Magic. Darkness. Shadows and light. Everything swirled around Dain as the battle was joined. A rush of adrenaline ran through him, and he slipped into such shadows as there were between him and the giant spider, which was his target.

I feel you. Close. I the roots that surround me, and the caverns of water, hiding in the depths of the earth. Untainted.

"Root and branch! Thorn and bramble!" Dain's words were said quickly, and under his breath. The etching on his blade of the tree began to be covered by ghostly images of thorny brambles and twisting roots. "Bind my foe..."

He struck out at the spider with a strong backhanded slash, drawing wispy images of brambles in the wake of the blade.

<25 to strike. Natural 20! Critical. 11x2=22 damage>

Otiroth

First Post
Otiroth: Four sides

Otiroth looked down briefly as the others began their fight, pulling out his spell component pouch. He'd been in it earlier to scatter some colored clay dust before, but did he still- ah, yes! Still some left.

Giving Metea a nod- they had this! And she had it, too!- he'd move forward to get to one side of Carthum.

"You're tough, fiend!" Yes, very tough- he had taken both a blast of eldritch energy and the brunt of Carthum's brilliant magic. "Submit, and impress me again, and maybe I'll make a familiar out of you!"

The pinch of colored dust was released, and Otiroth cast a spell of brilliance of his own- color spray! He would try and catch all three of their foes in the cone of effect if he could, but his main concern was the rat and the imp, since those were, well, closer to him!

<Spellcasting: color spray. 33 hp affected>

Jeovanna’s blade slices smoothly against the spider’s bulbous thorax, splitting a small section open in a gash. Strangely, the barbarian might realize that there should be more blood? Mmm, a big hit with a small wound? Dain’s great swing confirms the theory. This beast does not suffer so easily at the hands of simple steel! The ranger’s strike is perfectly placed and would have beheaded most simple mortals! Despite the arachnid’s confounded resistance, its future does not look bright, as thistles and sharp thorny vines wrap and strangle the devilish pet, scoring it's hide and tangling many of the available legs.

But it gets worse for the fiend-team. Packed together, Otiroth’s spectacular spray of color falls on the entire trio. Such dazzling colors, shimmering, but don’t look too long! The impish man and his pets all blink, realizing that their sense of sight has been stolen, like brightly colored candy from a baby.

“Nyarrrgh!”
The sorry excuse for a subterranean bandit cries.

With eight eyes malfunctioning, the spider still whips its fangs in the direction of the threat, Jeovanna, but misses the barbarian by a good distance.

Between the chaos of battle sounds and his friend’s screams, with eyes unable to see, the rat resorts to smell. Luckily for the rodent, sniffing and relying on aroma for direction is nothing new. The sorcerer! His smell is strong! So sweet and young and lustful and... disgusting!

Jaw wide open, the oversized sewerborn leaps at Otiroth, catching a young man’s arm between his teeth. Foul drool and unearthed disease accompany the wound. The infection is almost instant, the wound darkening and hurting like hell!

In the blink of a blinded eye then, the Imp disappears from sight, his final words yelled at full volume into the resonant passages. “Krijucfw xe wfppal haf!” Ah ha, trickery, Carthum would realize. The magic aura of the enemy is moving, trying to feel it's way along the back wall… Hang on, both he and Metea might understand that it has just called out for help! The question is… did anyone hear...

<Rat disadvantaged blinded attack = 19 (other roll was 20). Damage to Otiroth = 6hp. DC11 Con save required immediately.>

Metea: four sides

Metea once more is distracted before she can focus fully on the trap. Her hand is getting a bit sore!

<wisdom check=10>

But how could she not be distracted, with a big sewer-crawling monstrosity attached to Otiroth's arm? "Get off of him!" Metea shouts, and a bolt of eldritch energy zaps the rat in the side of its hairy head.

It had best suffer!

<Spellcasting: Eldritch blast Attack roll w/ disadvantage= 23. Damage 8>

“Sure is getting noisy back there,” Annit mentions to the silent dwarf, hearing a familiar blasting sound, bashing maces and other combative snippets from a distance. “Someone is getting angry,” and it's not Jeovanna for a change, unless she knows how to speak infernal. The Imp’s yell bounces off the walls, and though she knows not what it means, it sounded frantic and pained. Almost as pained as the invisible fiend's final cry.

Metea’s revenge might have shortened a sorcerer and priest’s ear hairs on the way past, but her aim is spectacular! A jitter, a wobble on his feet, and the Imp is visible once more. “Naaaa!” He falls, dead and limp as a sack of coal-fired potatoes.

Annit’s torch remains burning at her feet, her bow ready, when she hears a scuffling down the passage ahead. Was that a shadow down at the bend? She pulls the bowstring back and waits…

To the north east, Otiroth’s wound is already worsening, the pain ringing within his well-proportioned cranium, the laceration in his arm now swelling to resemble a ripe bloody plum.

<6hp poison damage to Otiroth, now -12 total.
Imp is dead!>

Carthum One-Tusk: Four sides

Otiroth will likely be displeased by Carthum's next choice, but the risk of the rat biting another teammate and spreading its disease further is too great for Carthum to ignore. He moved forward quickly, using his shield and his mace together to strike the rat and attempt to knock it backwards, away from them both.

"Back, vermin!"

It's a risky move, if not only partially because it puts his shield slightly askew- out of his usual normal pattern for attacking!

<Mace attack/bull rush attempt? To hit=15, damage 4>

Jeovanna

Jeovanna: Four sides

Jeovanna drew back in hesitation when the imp disappeared... but it reappeared a moment later, dead on the ground.

Another spell? Was it really dead?

Perhaps that hesitation is costly- a swing at the spider is savage, but likely to go wide.

<Greatsword attack- 9 to hit, 13 damage if successful>
