As with any other game you will have several interpretations of what it is about though I too hold to the mega corps having a strangle hold on everything else. Though in a smart a** manner Nathan was pretty close to the meaning of the game though that is just one small part. There are groups in the game that rely on little to no computers what so ever while others will crumble if their precious puters are taken away or deadly viruses implanted in them. Though even though I like the idea of a cyberpunk theme if people are having probs with this one they'd blow a head gasket with that.

Right. Sorry I haven't written for a few days, to be honest my brain's been a bit frizzled.

What we're waiting on is me tossing the info back to the bosses and techs again, and them telling me what needs to be edited again, and people saying whether or not we have enough background again. Despite the "normality" the newspaper "clippings" give the plce their validity as background was questioned and I still don't have an article on how far technology has advanced medically and in general, eg to guide how common personal spy bots, holographic devices or cybotics/augmentation is.

And I need a map. I should scan in a basic one from somewhere and have someone alter it. That'd work....

Do I take it that you would likie TMP to be a cyberpun setting? We could have a poll on ut to decide, perhaps with a week's duration? If it is made so, we will also need some supporting background for that. Many people who would jump into a new setting may know nothing about cyberpunk. Volunteers?

What kind of big-wig NPCs do we want? I humbly suggest having the NYC mayor and President set to avoid future arguements or issues with that... then it would be less likely that others down the track would run across the same problems as we had over clashes of real life and imagined because they couldn't bring real life identities into it. Would that work?

I thought we had a map?

I know we had something of a map, because those of us with businesses, placed our businesses where we wanted them to be located. Do we still have this, or no?

As for NPC's-

President
Governor
Mayor

People of Import to the Area: ?
Major Baddies- Most wanted style?
Local troublemakers?
Anyone else needed?

As for Cyberpunk.. I don't really know what this is, so I'm Kinda avoiding it. Unless someone has better links or information.. not the dictionary. It'd be nice to know about, if we are going to have a vote or whatever.

Although a file was recommended, from memory it didn't have enough to point out where things were. Businesses are currently placed "in relation to" TMP, eg. across the road and down a block or three blocks away. No one actually made up one for use and I'm afraid if my measly comp does it we'll end up with a pretty skuddy paint bitmap.

Most wanted and local troublemakers would be pretty cool, but if someone wanted to play "1# most wanted's hired assassin", who would be controlling that? Would it need to be controlled? Would it be better to consider them PCs, the creators retain control? ;)

As for the cyberpunk, I'm with you. I've never looked into it, so I'll wait for
others to bring up the pros and cons, thanks.

Cyberpunk would be an interesting route to take in my opinion.

The following is an opinion and is based on what has been gathered, not actual research; corrections may be needed...
Generally, the genre applies to a futuristic setting with high technology replacing a lot of the more common magic and gear of a typical D&D setting. Mechanical augmentations, hormone enhancing injections (think short term steroids), computer coding being used in espionage and other sorts of hacking, and as has been mentioned, often an overarching company or group of companies seeking power or control over the world at large are staples of it. It tends to be a bit more gritty than classical D&D, with the lines of morality and ethics being more subjective than absolute, leaning toward more blurred senses of what is(/isn't/can be/etc..) right. Extraterrestrial influence exists in some sources, is absent in others, and is questionable in others still. Often there is some degree of off-planetary travel, including space-station bases and things of that sort.

I believe the better known sources would be movies like Bladerunner, Akira, and Armitage (there are others but those three come to mind), and television shows like Aeon Flux (from MTV a few years back) and others that I can't think of right now.

It would be an interesting route to take, but it's definitely a sort of cult-genre with a devoted following of people who really get into it, and an equal-sized group that doesn't. I'd be interested in pursuing cyberpunk as an idea for it, but it would take some dedicated players to fully flesh it out to do the concept properly.

Well I have Dungeon Crafter, and Campaign Cartographer, but I don't think either of those are what we are looking for. If I'm wrong let me know, I'll use 'em if we want.

I also have photoshop, and can do some editing of other maps if that would be preferred.

Ideas, suggestions, thoughts..

Local villains and most wanted:
it would probably need some control, that way two people both don't try to claim the same title.

Basically, folks could volunteer for the positions, and notes could be kept about who is what, that way there are no duplicates.

Oh I already claim #1 crime syndicate as The Coterie.. if permitted :) it's all planned out and everything. Oh please please please :)

Okay..

Map Making, does anyone have a preferred spot they'd like to be, business wise?

If my maps are accurate that I"m am adjusting.. TMP is at the corner of 3rd and 102nd.

A police stations sits at 102 and Lexington, which I'll keep.. I'll be moving and editing schools..

I'm also going to put Knights.. at 101 and Park Ave.

Any other notions? The indepth map goes from 99 to 107, and from 1st to Madision..

While I am drawing things up, let me know if you are within range.. business wise.. or if you are further off..

Thanks

Hi!

My business is La Fiamma di Miele, a cafe/bakery/coffee shop not too far from TMP. Could I have like a block of so between mine and TMP? Maybe be on 103rd st or something? I don't know NYC so I don't know which is the most appropriate place for m.

Thanks!

Mad Max even represents one aspect of Cyberpunk though doesn't really relate to the area we are discussing.

Basically everything we have mentioned since the beginning is in essence the basics of Cyberpunk. It is meant to be run more "real life" in regards to morality, ethics and things along those lines. The setting itself is alot more adult in nature than say your usual D&D setting. Though with the CoC that shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry if I didn't read this right... but did I understand you correctly when you said we needed more info on the technological and medical advancements?
