When mid-terms are over.. I'll write some ideas up and see what folks think of them..

It does put a HUGE damper on any news related stuff. I didn't go with "fluff" or more light hearted stuff simply because light hearted stuff isn't news and "fluff" is found in those "newspapers"(I use that term loosely) that have the pictures of 400lb 2 year olds and three headed goats with the bodies of dogs.

I can work around alot of the stuff, like no current political figures, no religious, racial, ethnic comments. The one that will be the hardest is not using real world places, cities, states and countries. I see a need to keep things under control but at the same time I think that not being able to work with real world places is too much. Going with that line of thinking what if someone from New York is offended by the fact that their city is the one that TMP is based in. These types of problems are going to be coming in left and right during chat sessions when the room is opened. I could play a gangster type from the west coast that hates New York with a passion and makes disparaging remarks about the city and its inhabitants. If that offends someone then I or any other player won't be able to play characters that might have something bad to say about a city or a neighborhood because another player might take that as a direct jab at them. Many more instances will pop up like folks commenting on southern inbreeders, irish drunks, stupid pollocks, snooty french, aragant americans, lazy mexicans and any other stereotype you can come up with. For those of you that are easily offended those were just examples I was using and NOT saying those things about anyone.

If bringing real world situations into the setting is against the rules then maybe the setting should be re-evaluated so that it won't be so easy to do. This room will probably be the hardest to monitor due to the fact that it is in a real world city where real world events, countries, politics and religions WILL come into play. If real world events are banned in this setting then you might as well move it to Never Never Land where the situation can't possibly happen.

There is nothing in that decision that says you can't use real world cities and countries, just don't use them as overall war or political focuses etc. Maybe there's a gang in our game which is from one city and is against another city. I doubt anyone would have a problem with it so long as it remains clear that it is an IC thing. Problems could be sorted out between the players with someone else mediating if necessary...

However, political and national identities are far easier to be offended at.

This wouldn't be allowed on the site anyway. One of the best reasons for having aliens, mutants or secret organisations is to give a potential spark for IC controversy without it reflecting OOC controversy too closely. Yes, chances are that someone someday may use an IC grudge as a way of voicing their OOC grudge. At least if they can't use real names/races/religions etc directly they have to tone it into something that OOC others might be able to brush off.

Can you kinda see what I'm trying to get at?

You don't have to pitch two actual countries (which would mean their governments as well) against each other for there to be bad things. There could well be violence in the Atlantic spawning from one would-be cult arguing with a subgroup without it "being" OOC groups. To take a page from local tv, a deadly battle between families that have followed over to the "new country" may spring from something as minor as production arguements over whether to make chopsticks with fork and knife ends which would allow non-asian to eat chinese with dignity. :rofl:

Even though what got this started was several countries going to war or the threat of war was eminate that is no longer on my mind. You don't have to have that type of earth shattering things to add spice.

Yeah the stereotypes most likely wouldn't pop up and definately wouldn't when a WizO was logged in.

What I am seriously having a problem with is if we can't make references to real world politics and things of that nature in a real world setting.

I would debate over this further but I'll refrain and live with the judgement given.

Seriously without sugar coating anything how close are we to getting this going? I don't mean an actual date but work wise what has to be done.

Since we seem to be having such a problem, I propose that maybe we should consider making this more... cyberpunk (please excuse me if I've misgeneralized this). We could focus more on mega-corperations that can have a huge effect on the world (Thinking Rainbow 6 and MI2, but more day to day). Thoughts?
