I was just wondering if people could break down whether or not they usually used miniatures in their combats and tell us what game they usually played. by original dnd i meant all boxed set, basic, expert, etc, as well as the older original old school stuff. by usually play i mean more than any other game, and by usually use miniatures in combat, i mean more than 50% of the time.

this is my first poll. enjoy.

I play 4E, and use minis (actually not figures, but still markers representing characters and monsters.) I never use minis when playing 2E or earlier versions though, and never have.

Playing from BECMI to 3.x we didnt use miniatures at all. None of us came from a wargaming background and I dont think it really occurred to us that minis were necessary. I dont think however we were typical if the number of minis that used to be on sale or advertised in dragon were anything to go by.

My group is playing 4e now and is using minis for the first time ever. They are working very well for the game.

I play 4e, and only use minions when it is really serious and complex combat (basically just the really important combat). Normal encounters are done without any kind of mini or maps.

This poll might be more interesting if we could choose the way we historically played each game — for example, I always played 3E with minis, and never did with AD&D. And 4E is minis all the way.
