The Most Powerful Item

As a player - a cloak that reduced fire damage by 90% (2E, at lvl 6).

As a GM - a cursed ring that absorbed all damage (and healing), a sword that always hit, and the Grail of Power (a more powerful version of my Grail of Belief from Quirin Mythology #2: A Handful of Artifacts). Various liquids imbibed/drunk from the grail did incredible (different) things such as resurrecting fallen comrades.

The Ring of Elemental Command, 1st ed.

The ring had the cumulative powers of each of the four Rings of Elemental Command, (Air, Earth, Fire, Water) all in one single adamantium band, set with four gems.

In 3.5 - that's worth what, 800,000 GP?

lol... dredging up a long dead thread here...

The most powerful item I had as a player was a staff which was a VERY beefed up staff of the Magi. It could cast unlimited fireball, chain lightning, meteor swarm, cone of cold, melfs acid arrow, magic missile, and about a half dozen other spells on command. This was for DnD / 1st Ed.

The idea was to get the spells most frequently cast out of the way so that you never ran out of them and / or ran out of slots. This way you could concentrate on the more esoteric spells. It's always great fun to reproduce this item in NWN. lol.

Most raw energy: the effect which drew on the entire multiversal quantum fan at six hours into the future for power.
Most flexible: the device which redefined the laws of nature as desired on a planetary scale.

Staff of the Magi (or was that a Staff of Power?) for D&D, I guess.

Other than that, probabbly one of those rings from the Merlin Chronicles (Amber series) when playing Amber.

As a player? That would have to be the multifaceted ring I got a while back. Basically, it had a 6 diamonds and a movable selector. with the selector positioned one one diamond, the character gains the benefits of one ring, while anonther diamond functioned as a another type of ring. Basically six rings in one; ring of elemental command (one diamond for each element), greater energy resistance and ring of the ram.
