It would be fun to see those numbers ajusted for inflation and actual attendance for those films. In France they mesure the number of people who actually went to see a flick if I am not mistaken.

that's a good point, Gold. Titanic (one of 2 Cameron films at the top of the list) is from like 20 years ago. The attendance numbers for it must have been massive compared to any of the newer films, to account for inflation of ticket prices.

Sadly, some of those movies weren't even best in class (like the Transformer sequels).

It's good to see Jurassic Park still on the list, that was a good film.

We should note that "adjusted for inflation" is generally taken to be adjusted to reflect the overal economic inflation rate - comparing, in general, what the overall ticket sales are worth in the economy of the time.

This is different from adjusting for the rise of ticket prices, specifically. If ticket prices rise at a different rate than prices in the overall economy, then the results will be different.

I don't think the studios care all that much about how many people see the film - to first approximation, what matters is return on investment. Number of viewers matters for merchandising, I suppose, but lots of films don't do much merch business.

Ugh, I hate that. Sometimes you get to the theater and the only movie at a decent is the Imax 3D movie that costs like 17$. Which sucks cause I already feel like movies at too expensive at just over $10. Which, of course, is why I rarely go see movies in theaters anymore.

The only movies I haven't seen on that list are Frozen, Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland. Of the rest, I probably only saw like half in the theaters.

I've seen them all, and indeed have seen all but "Titanic" in the cinema. I expect that one will have a rerelease at some point, so maybe I'll complete the set at some time.

In fairness, these are mostly films that are improved by the cinema experience - the SFx are definitely helped by a large screen and loud sound system.
