Waitaminute -- Henry V?

*checks IMDB, picks jaw up off the floor*

Good grief! THAT was Christian Bale? The little kid? Holy crap.

Thanks for the research, reap. That totally made my day. And I'm kind of having a crappy one, so that's a good thing.

Henry V is the first movie I always think of when I hear Christian Bale's name. But then, I've seen the film so many times...amazing film. Best shakespear film ever. And Bale was quite good in it.

And I agree, he was fantastic in Empire of the Sun. Kid got his career off to a good start. I think he'll be a great Batman.

Which Henry V film is Bale in? Coincidentally, I'll be teaching it tomorrow and watching a few clips from the Branagh and the Olivier version.

So, err, which kid would that be? I certainly have seen Henry V but I can't think of any children.

He's the only boy of note in the movie. In the beginning, he is in the scenes with the two guys fighting over the woman (who, incidentally, was played by Judi Dench). They are the ones who used to hang out with Harry before he came King (their names were Nim and Pistol--though I'm sure spelled differently--Bardolph was also in that group). Later, he was one of the boys who tended the provisions during the battle--the ones who were slaughtered by the French. He's the one whose dead body King Henry carried through the battlefield.

Hope that rings a bell. And someone please spell those names correctly. I'm too lazy to go check my anthology...

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I am worried that the film has both Ra's Al Ghoul and Jonathan "Scarecrow" Crane.
The only thing I've heard is that Crane plays a very small part in the movie; in fact, I heard he's taken care off before the proper beginning rolls. That has probably changed in the months since I read it, and will probably change again as scripts are re-written. The fact that just now are we getting a casting for the main villain, to me, says everything is still up in the air.

The Branagh version. Best ever!

Well, there's more than a little basis for improvement and some dodgy interpretative work, but (a) I'll avoid hijacking, and (b) it is a darn good movie.

Thanks for the info. Off to pick it up and head to class right now.

You're spot-on with the spellings, except that it's Nym. Then again, the Dauphin is the Dolphin in earlier printings of the play, so it's not as if spelling matters much :p

As for the boy, that's what his designation is. Even the play simply refers to him as The Boy.
