Christian Bale has been in a hell of a lot of movies, and he's good in about all of them. I'm confident that he can pull this off.
If he can still play the role of a vigilante with an obsession, then that's great. George Clooney's Batman was almost a leap back towardAdam West's Batman.

Of course, my strong impression of Batman is his scowl. If Christian Bale can match (or better) the comic-book scowl with the mask on, he's probably going to be better than previous Batman actors, including my personal favorite, Michael Keaton.

Re: Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes will be a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne's. At age 8 (IIRC), they're playing tag or somesuch when young Bruce falls through a hole in the garden and into a massive bat-filled cavern system

Also, the actor who was going to play a minor role as a lawyer has been let go, and Guy Pearce (who worked with director Christopher Nolan in Memento) seems to be attached to this seemingly minor role
Harvey Dent, maybe?

Christian Bale - Bruce Wayne
Michael Caine - Alfred
Gary Oldman - Commissioner Gordon
Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai) - Ra's Al Ghul
Cillian Murphy (28 Days Later) - The Scarecrow
Morgan Freeman - Lucius Fox
Liam Neeson - Investigator Henri Ducard

I don't believe this cast. The Batman franchise has sucked hard for a long time, and there are too many popular actors here for this to make sense.

Kelly Hu, despite the fact we knew her for "Lady Deathtrike" role in X2?

Or that young yet oh-so-pretty girl from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?

Of course, if they prefer all-star cast, then ... sighs ... Lucy Liu (too old, IMHO).

So he is going to be the demon's head? ...possible.
I Wonder how Hollywood is going to treat Ra's Terrorist / New Eden goals.

Of course, it could be the older 1970's portrayal of Ras al-Ghul - Watanabe is perfect casting for that version of Ras, I think, except that he may need to lose some weight for the part - Ras is a skinny looking man. His new eden goals really didn't come out until later, didn't they?
