D&D (2024) The New Custom Backgrounds Details

I mean, the easiest way to make more Origin feats is to remove the ASI from any General feat. And you can homebrew a bunch more Origin feats on DDB in that way. However, currently you have to use the 2014 custom background system and then manually add a feat via the character sheet. Having the 2024 custom backgrounds option unlocked on DDB will be much easier to make custom backgrounds that grant custom Origin feats as a single package.
Yeah, bit since they already have "here's how to make a new Spell" or other new features, adding mathematical guidelines for Feats would make sense.

Phew, I think I instinctively followed these guidelines to a tee (even the recommendation to not include Martial weapons or armor). Except for Step 1, where things got a little uncertain for me. I wound up homebrewing 11 new backgrounds (based on some of the ones they left out from 2014) and choosing the Ability Score Increases was by far the hardest part for me.

I really like how 2024 makes the background a building block for worldbuilding a setting.

Keeping backgrounds in the hands of the DM is smart.

The backgrounds in Players Handbook feel a bit too rigid, but the DM fixes that by offering more backgrounds from the chosen setting, or working with players who tailor their own backgrounds for their character concepts.

Yep, no surprises. It'll just be nice to have this unlocked on DDB.
Wait so custom backgrounds will be available on DnD Beyond if you purchase the digital DM Guide but not if you only purchase the digital PHB?

So that's why they were omitted from the PHB even though everyone was just going to allow them anyways
