I'd guess that most Mind Flayers WOULD value physical beauty in female slaves, much in the same sense a human farmer might display some pride in a prize heifer. Not that this attitude would do the female in question any good, of course!
Another thing is that Cordell's work had it that many slaves "loved" their masters, a misplaced romanticism invoked by their mental domination. It's quite possible that Lockwood had this in mind when he did the painting, representing the thrall's desire to "look good for master".

Or maybe he listen's to too much Alice Cooper...;)

First of all, you don't need the psionics handbook, although there is some material in the book that uses it.

Care to expand?

Uhmmm... What more is there to say? I listed in that very post every single item in the book that requires the psionics HB, as well as indicating which 'psionic' aspects of the book can be used without the psiHB.

I can't wait to get my hands on this book. Mind flayers are the Big Bad in my campaign, and I'm really looking forward to maximizing their evil potential. Thanks, Hellhound!

How much of it can be used for different d20 settings? This is something I should post to the Publishers formum but can it be ported to d20 Modern/DragonStar/Spy Craft/CoC/etc? I am sure msot of it can be BUT... :)

I'm pretty sure I got a credit. . .

haven't got my comp copy yet, but the fine folks at PCI are pretty good about proper credit.

More to whet your appetites for brain-eaters. . . .

Re mind flayers valuing beauty - mind flayers having any kind of an aesthetic sense as humans would understand it is something I hadn't thought of, but it's an interesting idea with some nice RPing potential.

When the project proposal and assignments were going around, I had suggested a section be included about illeth art and architecture- an ancient, highly lawful and psionically-endowed civilization should produce some very interesting stuff. I envisioned the Mind Flayers developing perfumes that would be detectable only by psions, enhancing the mental aura of the wearer...

I guess those ideas didn't make it in.
Neither did the sample lair that Hellhound wrote.
Go figure.
