The new munchkin race of choice is . . .

I'd still take half-ogre over any of the other LA races. Massive bonusses to strength, good bonusses to con, reach, the ability to use huge weapons, and penalties a fighter, or barbarian can easily live with.

That said, the 3.5e dwarf is probably the best ECL 0 fighter/barbarian/paladin/ranger race out there.

And there's always human (and maybe Grey/Sun elf) for everything else.

Dwarves were the most powerful PHB race before the revision and they got boosted even more.

Oh, and neither is a hobgoblin.

Unless Aasmir and Tieflings have been bumped in 3.5 then both are ELC +1 according to both the DMG and the FRCS. if you are going to raise hobgoblins and others to EL+1 then every race but humans should be. also since EL +2 and higher races get the extra d8 hit points then so should those that are only +1. this would tend to balance the "more powerfull" races at higher level

As far as I know LA +2 races do not get an additional d8. Could you tell me were you read this. It seems like a good idea to give the LA races additional Racial Hit Dice for free or if you think thats to much how about Commoner levels. I do not like the ECL = LA + Racial Hit Dice formula. I feel it makes alot of monsters unusable as character races because of low hit points, attack bonus and saves.
 


The most overpowered race is the Desmodu. Check Savage Species if you don't believe me. +10 Str, +8 Con, +6 Dex, +4 Int and Wis, 12 HD with Fighter BAB, +5 natural armor, 10' reach, blindsight out to 120', and a bunch of other minor abilites. Their only real drawback is a 20' base move. ECL 14. The level adjustment on this brute is only +2, if you can believe it.

It's CR 9.

It had 12 HD and a Level Adjustment of +2, which means it is 14 ECL...

And LA 2 for large size, and lots of nice abilities is quite a good deal...
