The new Server--equipment and cost?

Hi!

Not sure if this info is somewhere else--I poked around a bit but couldn't find it.

Anyway, I was happy to donate to the new Server fund, and I'm just wondering what equipment you're planning on purchasing, and the approximate cost.

Thanks!

We're planning on spending everything we get. If we get $2000, we'll buy a $2000 server. If we get more, we'll buy a better one. Basically, we'll see what budget we have from the drive, and shop around and get the best server we can for that money.

Will you be able to keep the old server and run the new server next to it? If so you could probably split the database and the website, would increase the 'bang for the buck' even further.

What's the problem with the current server? Is the CPU the bottleneck, the amount of RAM available, the speed of the harddrives, or something else?

That's the plan! Plus we have another member (Rodrigo Istallandir) donating a third server - a little long in the tooth, but three's better than two, right?

The aim is to have so much power there that we can handle ANYTHING we might throw at the servers.

Let me know what needs to be done to proceed. Now that I'm back from GenCon I'll have some time to spend on it.
