FDP's line of half-race books

Coming soon to a gamestore near you:

Fiery Dragon Productions is bringing out a line of "Half-Race" books, starting with "Half-Elves - They're Like Elves, Only Taller!"

The second in the series will be "Half-Orcs" and we're working hard on "Halflings" although we can't quite figure out that one.

:)

Just kidding, don't worry.

We've got plenty of other areas of overlap planned, we'll leave well enough alone on this one!

Personally, I think some D20 publshers lack creative vision.

Not to belittle their work. It's good stuff, it just doesn't interest me any. But, the Complete Book of Elves et al is to gaming resources as Etch-A-Sketch is to Art.

I think Green Ronin has more than proved that it has creative vision. Maybe you should wait until the books come out before making up your mind about them.

The next big thing?
Thunderhead Games is doing it. I'm working on it. Leave me alone!!! Muahahahaha!"

I guess the next big thing will be a big ego. And, apparently, die_kluge is INDEED working on that. ;)

And, incidentally, real world elves are Keebler elves. Duh. I can even show you their cookies as evidence they exist.

I'm not opposed to race splat books per se, but...

Elves, Dwarves, Drow?
Been there, done that.
Let's see Grugach. Let's see Orcs/Half-Orcs. Let's see a good treatment of Gnomes (the 2e gnome/halfling book really sucked), let's see a good Halfling book. Hell, with the renewed popularity of Halflings in 3e, and certain halfling like characters in this really popular movie yall might have seen, you would think a Halfling book would be a huge cash cow right now.
So, basically, yeah, race splatbooks are cool, but I'm hoping to see some variety and a little more cutting edge topics.

Green Ronin's track record so far is excellent as far as I'm concerned, so they might very well fall into my "this idea isnt too cool at first glance, but these guys might impress me so I'll buy it" category. Kudos to Chris and co.

Haven't seen anything by paradigm first hand yet, so I'll withhold judgement.

I personally liked the old 2nd edition race splatbooks. Of course, I got them with the Core Rules expansion CD rather than having to shell out ungodly amounts of money for them.

As for third edition race splatbooks, I'm curious but I could definately live without them. It really just depends on how well they're done and whether their focus is going to be on easily adaptable elements, or rigid conceptualizing.

easily adaptable elements.

Race books are a fun thing, and I think if the publishers did them only slightly differently, it'd all fit better. I think if there was an 'assumed campaign world' (kinda like the assumed subject in sentences like "run away!" -- the subject is assumed to be 'you' or 'I', depnding on context).. anyway an assumed world that they don't neccesarilly publish, but something to say "This is what Elves are like here" instead of just the usual "This is how Elves are, unless it's different in your campaign". A DM could easilly take the inconsistencies between the books and/or his campaign with a larger grain of salt.

Then again, all that aside, just looking at the inconsistencies these books from different publishers will have could be interesting. You could buy, for example, 3 Elvan Race books from 3 different publishers, and decide that each is fully correct, on three different continents. :)

Anyway, Race books are nice, if for no other reason than they give you someone else's take on a race -- in full.

<note to self: Did that have anything to do with anything, now that I re-read it?> hehe

Not Keen On This...

Unless there's something spectacular about the content, I'm not interested. I've got my Tolkien, my mythology, etc. so I have all I need to do my standard array of non-human races just fine.

Now, if there's a book put out for something that isn't usual then I'm interested. (Despite the other things I can say, FFG's Mythic Races got this right.)
