The OOTS Adventure Game?

I'm curious; what's the deal with OOTS? When I started wandering around Gen Con on Thursday morning, the line for the game was wrapped halfway around the show floor, and the line never seemed to slow the several hours I was there. So what gives? Did each game come with a free vial of crack, or what?

Do you not read the comic strip?

I got to play a few rounds of the demo on Thursday. It felt like a cross between Dungeon! and Munchkin. The design is pretty clever, with the dungeon being laid out with randomly drawn tiles, a hand full of monsters to play on other characters, a deck of randomly drawn special abilities (Schticks), and loot cards that you can cash in for Schticks or trade away to other characters to get their help in combat. Oddly, it looked and felt like it should have been more fun than it actually was; this might have been a consequence of playing with strangers at the demo booth rather than with friends.

If anyone has any more specific questions, I think I remember the rules well enough to field 'em.

My husband & I managed to snag a copy of the game and played it Saturday night since our D&D game had been cancelled and we were too lazy to find another one - there's a bit of a learning curve, so it went fairly slowly for us at first, but that might have been becuase we were both too impatient/brain dead to read the directions properly before getting started.. almost every card made us laugh when we read it. Fun stuff. :)

I just picked this game up yesterday - it finally came to one of the local gaming stores! It is quite a lot of fun, with a longer game play than I was anticipating (although I suspect that future games will run faster).

Has anybody else played it?

It's fun. I played with a couple of my gaming group and a couple non-gamers and everyone seemed to have fun. There were some rules clarifications I picked off of the OotS boards that resolved any lingering issues we had. It did seem to take quite a while to play even the smallish game, though.

Our group has played a full game twice (once with 4 and once with 5 players).

Both times it seemed like the rules got in the way of the fun-ness. Some things are just totally nonsensical (Like the fact two players can trade the same loot back and forth the entire game and essentially always have a good set of bonuses).

The second time (when I was stuck with the bard) it seemed like I spent 5 hours just waiting to see who was going to win, knowing it wasn't me. This is frustrating.

It was pretty funny, and the artwork was enjoyable, so all was not a waste.

I give it 2 1/2 of 5 stars.
