If anyone has any more specific questions, I think I remember the rules well enough to field 'em.

Rules? There were rules??

Seriously, i played a Demo set that Pandemonium owns. Unfortunately, it either did not come with rules, or they somehow lost them. We had some quick start rules which you know full well did not cover every last rule. The quickstart rules, on the other hand, were in comic form and were effin' hysterical!

6 strangers, two of whom had never even heard of the comic, played for about 4 hours. We had a blast! We only got into level 3 of dungeon, due to our confusion, but we just had a blast laughing at all the inside jokes. Role playing was encouraged, and possible, and backstabbing and alliances worked great.

It is actually the only thing on my birthday wish list for this year - it's a bit expensive for one friend to buy but i figure between 4-6 people (are you listening, Piratecat, SirOsis, Dareoon, Zog, Carlzog, Qualidar? That's less than $10 each ;)) it is affordable.

Does anyone know how it compares to the Dork Tower game that came out a few years' back? I got it as a present and played it once, and I'd hate to repeat that experience with OotS.

Played this twice now. It's a lot of fun - you can just lark about, as the game isn't that serious and you don't know who's winning until right near the end, so everyone's having fun.

It does take a long time to play. We only had three players for each game, and despite 3 hours of playing time with 4 levels, we never properly finished. This is only a minor matter, as you can just declare the game finished at a certain time period and calculate points.

I've played four times, and I have yet to finish a game.
OOTs is a LOT like the old GW game Talisman.
Lots of wandering around whacking monsters and getting loot, with a hefty dose of screw your neighbor as well.
It's a very funny game, and a lot of fun, but there is a pretty steep learning curve, and the game takes ALL DAY to play!
As I said, I have yet to actually finish a game. After the fourth hour I kind of run out of steam.

Just consider it a subsidy for the free webcomic if you don't play the game more than once. (^_^) If you enjoy the comic.

We played it once with 3 players, but didn't get very far. We came across rules issues that we couldn't resolve and sorta gave up. I love the comic, but I really doubt we'll play the game again.

Our group has played Dork Tower several times. I got tired of it quickly, but others of our group of four really like it. No rules issues and play moved fast, although it can take awhile to play.

We've played about 4 games during our gaming nights when we didn't have enough players to play anything else.

It's a fun game, but it does take a damn long time, even at the lowest end. Last night we finally got to Xykon's lair, and I think they might even have beaten Xykon, but I had to leave a bit early, so Idon't know. Elan is definitely the weakest PC of the bunch, and we may have played our last game with him in the mix, its hard to get anything done with him, he has to be the faithful sidekick everywhere, and the bard song is what gets him enough loot to make it into Xykon's lair.

When in the lair, it got a bit ridiculous, as we had a stack of opponents that was about 10-15 deep as monsters with leaders kept adding Battle Size +1 for every goblin that was placed on the board. Not a problem with Roy and his Great Cleavage though, he rolled right through them all.

Fun game, though I think the replayability may have finally run out now that Xykon is dead.

as noted earlier, it takes a lot longer to play than is indicated by the game.

Also, I had problems calculating the bonusses (several different ones depending on method of attack) but that may have had something to do with lack of sleep and alcohol percentage in my blood. (we played it at our annual 'dont visit/have in-laws at christmas' board-game marathon)
We played it several times, each of wich took about 6 hours, even if we had only 4 dungeon levels.

Nevertheless, the fact that we kept on playing it should indicate it was fun!
