I love it.

If you have the old Netheril: Empire of Magic sourcebook, it was called General Matick's Missile. Supposedly he ripped it off from one of his employees.

The whole question of excessively 'scientific' and 'prosaic' spell names has been discussed a few times. Call of Cthulhu suggested renaming all the spells when the players get them (so Call Byakhee was Appeal to the Great Flying Ones). I actually think it fits the 'scientific'/'scholarly' nature of magic as seen in D&D, where wizards learn spells from books, perform experiments, and are the only base class with intelligence as their key stat. The D&D wizard doesn't actually fit any premodern template, being basically a scientist/engineer who lives in a world where magic exists.

Magic Missile is such a basic but useful spell you'd expect it to develop a prosaic name due to familiarity.
