The Paladin of Freedom and paladin-related PrC's

I've got a player in my game who created a Paladin of Freedom, the Chaotic Good variant from Unearthed Arcana. He has aspirations to join the Prestige Classes Cavalier (from Complete Warrior) and Fists of Raziel (from Book of Exalted Deeds).

Both PrC's require Lawful Good (or just "lawful"). Both describe themselves as orderly, militaristic, refined. This really isnt the definition of Chaotic Good, especially when viewed from the BoED's defintion.

How should I handle the inclusion of these variant paladins as it related to paladin-related Prestige Classes?

Thanks,
Kealios

A fair number of PrCs that are mostly aimed a paladins are set up so that a Good fighter/cleric could qualify for them as well. If you're in Eberron, or willing to adapt Eberron stuff, the Exorcist of the Silver Flame is such a PrC.

Wave the LG requirement to get in, but let him know if he doesn't pay attention to his orders/superiours from his PRCs that he's going to get booted and lose his special abilities. In other words you'll probably be changing his alignment to LG after awhile to show his change to these structured groups. Like the military, they will tear you down, and rebuild you the way they want which is to listen and do what you're told. Of course im not sure how this will effect his paladin of freedom abilities (haven't read about them) so maybe my whole idea is moot.

I think you meant Freedom, not Tyranny, yeah? :)

Well, if the Paladin class can be changed that minimally to create something 'new', why not just change the relevant PrC(s) in a similar way?

For example, if you change Servant of the Heavens (as a prerequisite feat) to Knight of Stars (I think that's the one) for the Fist of Raziel PrC, rename the PrC to something appropriate, and form some kind of loose organisation around it perhaps, or even fit it in with a group that already exists in whatever world you're using, I can't see any reason why the rest of the PrC would need to change whatsoever. None of the class abilities are Lawful in nature; they might be inherently Good, sure, but that's hardly an issue.

As far as class abilities go, the Cavailer wouldn't need to change at all. However, you'd need to change the modus operandi and so on, to suit (and probably the name). Instead of being beholden to a heirarchy, they could be fiercely dedicated to exposing and confronting the evils that lurk within lawful societies (as well as various external threats and the like). There's no reason why they couldn't follow a (CG) deity, either. As knights, I expect they could still challenge foes - and others - in duels, jousts, melee etc. where appropriate. Perhaps members of this PrC belong to a secret revolutionary circle of (x number). There are many ways the Cavalier could be reinterpreted in a CG kind of light.

hth a bit
