The Paladins Code

Mark, I've actually considered handing those lyrics to those who play paladins in my campaign! With "To fight for the right, without question or pause" in bold.

Hi ya-

The slave problem might come under personal Courage. But even then, if it's the Law of the land to have slaves, then I think a Paladin might have to abide by that nations laws. I could be wrong and as a player and a DM, I personally have not ran into or run situations like that.

Sure, you might not go aroud killing slave owners and freeing their slaves, but any wealth you have might be spent towards buying and freeing slaves and getting them to a country where slavery is illegal.

This sounds good to me. One person can not say what is legal in someone elses land and expect to survive. Buying slaves and using "grass roots" campaigns to stop it would be the best way. Its not a flashy as a Paladin maybe should be but it could work.

I only played a Paladin once. He had been more interested in the law than good. He teamed with a rogue saying the rogue could go places he could not. He made deals with Demons.

I always use the boy scout code as a model, what makes it interesting is that it is broke down into two parts; the oath and the laws, this give me the DM options. ;)

Marching into hell for a heavenly quest, and reaching at stars and stuff, that's cool.
But love pure and chaste from afar?

Whoa. Nevermind. That's waaay too too extreme.

That depends on the nature of the slavery.

Slavery as judicial punishment for criminals: Morally permissible.

Chattel slavery: Not morally permissible.

So, Overlord Bob enacts a law that requires all halflings to be captured and sold into slavery means the paladin becomes a member of the underground railroad.

Its complicated, depending on your value system. I can see these being parts of a Paladin code.

Fertility

You are your deities embodiment on this earth. Wither you go so shall you spread his progeny. Children born of your trysts are holy scions of your deity.

Sensate Pleasure

From the cold hard reaches of the outer realms you have been chosen by your god. Prayer and pleasure are one holy unity. At least once a week you must seek the greatest pleasure you can attain and experience it after a dedicatory prayer.

Failure to do so imperils your paladin abilities until you have some fun :)

That would certainly make for a different paladin than you usually see.

"We have triumphed over evil once again! Let's go pick up some babes. It is a difficult task, but I have been commanded to enjoy it."
