The percentage of women in gaming?

I think the typical style of "kill things and take their stuff" doesn't really appeal to most women, .

The women in my group are just as willing as the men to kill things and take their stuff, sometimes even more so.

My experience through both personal experience and conventions has been that women make up 15-20% of gamers. My (or anyone else's except for WotC's or Paizo's market research) sample size is statistically insignificant, though.

like PKitty my data is not significant.

but it is around 5 in 46 or ~ 11%

Including all the groups I've regularly played with, the number of female gamers has been 5 in 28 or about 18%. In the groups I was in before college it was 0 in 15. In the groups during or post college, it has been 5 in 13. Those numbers only include regular players and DMs, not people that played a time or two and quit.

Let's in my group there are 5 women and 3 men, so that's 62.5%. All but one of the groups I played in had at least 1 female and none of them have a problem with killing monsters. Hell, one of them has a real flail in her apartment. I would hate to be the person who broke into her place, between the flail, bow, daggers, and the 2 swords (a real one she gave her 17 year old son and the a wooden practice sword that I gave her).

Museum Replicas is a fun place to shop!

Since I started playing 3.5 I have always had at least 2 women in the group. Never more than that though. So that makes 40%! :p

My current group is at an all time low of 33.33% (3 out of 9). I've had groups that are 75%, 50%, and 60%. I've been very lucky, I guess. Judging by the numbers being bantered about here, I would say extremely lucky.

Most of the other female gamers I've met were kind of . . . um . . . flaky, so I don't know how desirable it is to have a bunch of them around, anyway. Of course, maybe I could also be considered a flake, but I don't think so. I'm rather more balanced and practical-minded. In fact, I'm rather more like a guy than a gal in many ways.

As for estimating what percentage of gamers are female, how would you even go about estimating how many gamers there are? I ask, because I belong to another culture segment that is also very male-heavy, and the gentlemen are also known for asking what percentage of females they can expect in that group as well.

There aren't many of us. But I am in a group that is 70% female so it is strange to sit at a convention table to play Star Wars or Shadowrun and be the only woman there.

We are indeed a semi rare occurance .... That being said, I do think that the number of female gamers is growing.
