The Scriptures of St. Cuthbert

Getting lost in fantasy maps
I've been posting around to get some advice. I am starting out playing a fighter who is a devout worshipper of St. Cuthbert who has yet (and will never) follow the path into the clergy. Just a warrior out to evangelize St. Cuthbert with the aid of a big stick (quarterstaff, double weapon fighting).

Pulled from Complete Divine and the LG Deities 2.0 document:

St. Cuthbert teaches new clerics with specially recruited mentors that have drill sergeant attitudes and stern demeanors. Day and night his acolytes pray, train, and fight, until they can recite entire books of St. Cuthbert's scripture from memory.

...

St. Cuthbert's religious teachings are passed on in the form of commandments, all of which begin with "Thou Shalt" or "Thou shalt not." In general, clerics of St. Cuthbert are more likely than most to pepper their speech with thee, thine, and other archaic pronouns.

But I would like to build a repertoire of sayings an evangelist of St. Cuthbert would recite at appropriate moments that would help build the authenticity of him having memorized St. Cuthbert's scripture or bits of wisdom.

Some I have gotten elsewhere include:
- "Square corners shall be pounded round"
- "Stubborn heads are not made of glass."
- Someone mentioned I look in T1-4, there is a temple to St. Cuthbert there with some sayings, unfortunately I don't own this.

Anyone care to offer some lines? Has anyone out there come up with their own nuggets of wisdom from St. Cuthbert?

Just that quickly, Samuel Weiss pointed me to an article he wrote in Oerth Journal #20.

Here is some tasty excerpts I have found in it.
- Enlightenment can penetrate even the helm of iron.
- Preach quietly, but have a large cudgel handy.
- Capricious behavior brings knots to the heads of those lacking wisdom.
- Foolishness can be beaten.
- Salvation is better than smart answers.
- Some good folk can only understand one thing.
- Evil which cannot be removed must be eliminated.

In the ToEE PC game, both Calmert and Terjon have many colorful sayings...I'll see what I can find for you when I get a chance...

One of my favorites that I came up with (for clerics in general, in older editions of the game to explain why they only use bludgeoning weapons): "You may cut the enemy's flesh, but you must break the bones!"

OK, here's what I've got from the ToEE game (sorry, not as useful as I had remembered):

Terjon -

"St. Cuthbert of the Cudgel exacts revenge and just punishment on those who transgress the law. He was once a mortal man, who ascended to godhood long ago. He has been known to intervene when the Old One shows up, but we won't speak more of that."

Calmert -

"Remember, St. Cuthbert rewards those who give freely to the needy."

"St. Cuthbert of the Cudgel is the god of retribution. It is important that all who follow him obey the laws of the land. Our church here helps those who stray from the path of lawfulness."

"St. Cuthbert's vengeance will be swift!!"
