Mmm... Well, he could go Bloatmage, you know. He won't even lose progression, just a feat

Last time I said the word "Bloatmage" aloud in the presence of my group I was met with cold glares and silence. I don't think anybody's going to be going for that particular PrC, and I'm not too keen to suggest it ever again.

Might I suggest, then... Dragon Disciple? (I mean bonded object is KINDA like spontaneous casting).

If was running the game I might allow it, on the basis that it will still be underpowered compared to a full wizard.

Dragon Disciple is iffy on bonded objects. Whether it counts would likely be based on the GM's interpretation of the rules.

Also it's the PrC I'm planning to have my own Bard take, and knowing Special Snowflake Syndrome, he won't want a class someone else is already doing.

...For the sake of everyone's time I'm not linking to Special Snowflake Syndrome's TVtropes page. >_>

Perhaps the wizard can find the divine and start towards mystic thuergue.

Not a terribly powerful option, but it does add some healing (I know bard and alchemist probably have that covered)

There is also Arcane Archer and Eldritch Knight, Neither great, but they are available

Finally, and probably the best choice, Lore Master

He's better off staying Wizard. If he insists, Loremaster probably is the "best" since you lose no CL, but I just don't like that one. Only PF arcane PrC I really like is Pathfinder Savant. Loses 1 CL and has a painful feat requirement, but otherwise, it's really really amazing.
