The Troll A Platform

The The Troll A Platform is pretty cool, primarily because its construction and towing -- yes, they towed at 1500+ feet 680,000 ton object -- was covered in a television documentary in the late 1990s. It currently is the tallest object to have been moved.

I think I saw it on Discovery Channel.

The Discovery web site has nothing.

Two hours of Googling about and combing through lists of episodes from Discovery Channel shows, a History Channel show, and a National Geographic show on Wikipedia found nothing. A grand list of Discovery Channel programs found some likely program titles, but they had no individual pages and so no lists of episodes were available.

Some random web entries had text that discussed having seen the program, and on Discovery Channel, but they were like me, asking for where to find it.

Does anyone know the program name, or episode title, in which the Troll A Platform appeared? I'm trying to track it down for purchase, Netflix, or library access.

It might be produced by NRK (the Norwegian national broadcaster). I remember them being rightfully proud of Troll A and the towing. Unfortunately NRK are notoriously bad at making their programs available for the public after broadcasting (except web-TV which has been very good the last years.)

From what I can find on Norwegian pages there were several channels following and broadcasting from the tow, but no mention of a documentary.

What you might be looking for is National Geographic's "Engineering connections" episode "Suber Rig" (Engineering Connections | Super Rig | National Geographic Channel ) hopefully that link works.

It looks related. There was a video clip included on that web page. I watched it and did not remember it, but it was about the Troll A Platform, no question. I will investigate it further. Thanks!
