The Unapproachable East

I'd like to see Halruaa too. I really got hooked on that reagion after reading councelers and kings.

I'd like to see Halruaa too. What scares me is the idea of another crunchy book on Realms spellcasters. The powerups are guaranteed.

I would not like another spellcaster powerup book in the FR either, but better Halruaa than another pointy-eared powerup splatbook.

Second.

Oh, I'd definitely like to see a work on Cormyr, as well. And Sembia. I can't find any information on Sembia outside the FRCS.

I have a campaign set in Cormyr, with some connections to Sembia, and I used the old Cormyr Sourcebook, Volo's Guide to Cormyr and "Cormyr - A Novel" for information. As far as Sembia is concerned, I heard once that in 2E it was deliberatedly left vague in order for the DM to fill, but I use the "Sembia" novel series as an information source.

That makes some sense, but it's not why I use the Forgotten Realms. If I want to run a homebrewn kinda place, I use my own setting. The Forgotten Realms is for when I want to DM with a giant backdrop already there for me, and I don't have to create new - just spend my time fiddling with what's there.

That's right - the 1e FR box even said as much. Something like "Oh, and this country over here we leave open so you can do stuff there on your own."
The idea is sound, but Sembia was a poor choice in the matter. It's too central - the heart of FR is Cormyr, the Dalelands and the Moonsea. Sembia is right in the middle of that. . It would have been better if they had used Unther or some other out-of-the-way place instead.

yeah, Sembia and another region (Lizard Marshes?)

Course, they later developed/ modified them anyway, but so? :)

What's the censored race? It comes before "Gnoll"...could it be the "Elf, Star" mentioned in character regions? Are "Star Elves" from Realsmspace or what?

I really hope it is so. I really find players who like elves really don't have enough subrace choices in the Realms. Really clearly not enough elves. After all, who need something wholly new when you can have a new variant of elves ?

Sheesh. I propose, for the purpose of D&D 3.R, that all races are renamed "something elves." Dwarves would be "stocky elves", gnomes would be "magic elves", half-orcs would be "brutish elves", etc.

Having had the privilege (yes thats right, I said privilege) of owning every Spelljammer product, and seen a goodly number of the articles, I can say with a pretty high measure of certainty that there never was a race called Star Elves. That aside, elves were pretty active in Realmspace (as they were in most space lanes), being the largest naval power there was.

That said, I have no idea what the censored race could be. I'm less curious about what it is than about what about it makes it have to be censored at all. Time will tell I guess.

That said, I'm hoping this one has a balance between crunchy and chewy bits. After seeing FR products that were extreme on both ends of the spectrum, it looks like this one may have achieved a happy medium.

I was actually pretty impressed at how much crunchy was in the last two books. Bet this next one is super nice.

I was very impressed by the Shou mention. Zakhara was my favorite setting of all time, and I'd love to loot its three E translation.

Genie mages rock! Or rather, they summon a Dao to rock for them.

Someone mentioned the absence of a good city setting earlier. Perhaps they would be surprised at the quality of bluffside, freeport, and Oathbound?

Not too belittle the importance of a Waterdeep translation, of course.
