The Warlock - How has it played?

I played a warlock from levels 5-10, and yeah, it's a fairly well-balanced class. The spell-like abilities at will were nice, but they never overshadowed the arcane casters in the group (for a while, there was also a wizard and a sorcerer, so there was plenty of room for comparison). Also, the invocations are a pretty good mix of offense and utility.

Plus, there's all sorts of good roleplaying potential built into the class.

Demiurge out.

Currently playing one here in a PbP, playing RttToEE. So far she's 5th level (started at 1st).

Very balanced, if you ask me. The eldritch blast is powerful and has been a decisive force in some battles, but these are also the levels, where the warlock is probably best in relation to character level. And it's not like the warlock outshines the fighters or something like that.

Basically the offense is similar to that of a fighter type, the defense is weaker, and that is compensated by the few utility invocations.

Plays 100% as expected.

Seems to work fine, balance-wise. I don't like its flavor; for some reason the idea of blast magic 1/round seems a bit too much. But that's just me, I guess. And I would certainly like it in the right campaign.

A player is considering the idea of making a warlock with the sending-like invocation and use it for marketing. Magic spamming. *shudder*

I have fun with it. Although the "Grappling" monsters tend to target me... :)

I notice that I am very "Trigger happy" since I never run out of charges. "You see a dude in blue armor, surrounded by guards, marching up to the inn" "I Flee the Scene to the top of the inn, and prepare to blow them away!". This leads to me playing chaotic, which is good since the character is such.

Also, I totally screwed up the atmosphere with a guest-DM that wanted to start us low on spells, saying we had just returned from a long series of battlefield engagements..."So what? I still can use all my invocations, right?"

But I do notice that the blaster mage with lightning bolt, scintillating sphere, etc., is wayyyyy better at killing stuff. It's the mass damage. I am more of a sniper, hitting the wounded or else the BBEG (just to wear him down a few pegs...thank you Precise Shot).

Given that any victim of such spamming can do damage to the warlock spammer, I think that would be a sub-optimal choice. :)

Ours has been playing well. We are running at low levels right now. She's very effective at short ranges (60 feet isn't very far), but gets mobbed rapidly and loses her edge there until a fighter can clear some room for her.

The Warlock in my last game was awful. The player in question claimed that the Warlock was balanced because he was only good at combat, and was therefore not a flexible character.

Unfortunately, since the game in question was heavily focused on combad, he quickly dominated.

Warlock from...

World of Warcraft? Something WOTC?

I have several warlocks... just curious which one the discussion is about.
