I fell in love with the pic from the 2nd edition PHB of the chick intimidating the giant, but I couldn't find the picture online...Just love that pic...

Todd Lockwood - aka, the man who can only draw elvin chain, over and over and over again.... I do like his work, but he just seems to stick to templates of the same elves in the same poses (which probably isn't the case, but most of his 'individuals' look too similar. The chick in chainmail in the PHB is a stunning picture, but when there's loads of 'variations' it seems less special...

Brom? I dunno... some of his pictures are great, but many I don't like that much. :)

I must admit, his later stuff isn't as good as his 80's/90's stuff. I like the DS artwork the most, very rich in colour and depth. He also conveys the 'harshness' of the setting pretty well too...

which of the artists steals from Claudio's images? that's the guy i like. :p

edit: you know the one that took the half orc monk and ranger images and made them his own and placed them on the WotC site.

I gotta agree with you... Brom is very hit-or-miss for me. Like, in that post above with all those pics, some of them were absolutely fantastic, but that second one with the angel chick looks gross... Of course, the fourth picture with the other angel chick is one of the awesome ones.

I haven't noticed the names of some of the newer crop of freelancers WotC is using these days. I'm a huge Matt Wilson fan, but most of his best stuff isn't for WotC (some of it is, though--but more of it's Warmachine or IK.) I'm a huge James Ryman fan, but he's getting a lot more work by Paizo than by WotC.

There's a lot of WAR and Sam Wood pieces I like, but several that I don't. I like Daarken. Todd Lockwood does some pretty good stuff, and nobody matches his dragons. I've been a Ron Spencer fan since his work on Werewolf: the Apocalypse, but his WotC illustrations have been a bit more hit and miss.

Do you prefer color or B&W?

Typically color.

Do like the humorous images?

Yes!

Do you like those that are meant to mimic technical drawings?

Depends on how it looks. Some of Lockwood's dragon pics are fantastic. The PHB ones...meh.

Who are your favorite WotC Artists?

Jason Engle, hands down. He's done some amazing work as well with Arcana Evolved and with Margaret Weis Productions' Dragonlance books, among others.

I don't know who did it, but I really dig this pseudodragon:

I also dig some of Wayne England's and Wayne A. Reynolds' stuff.

For a non-WotC artist, I would look at Jennifer Meyer. She does great with female characters especially, and has a definitive feminine style. Good stuff!

ALL of their artists pall infront of the old-school master... B*R*O*M

I don't really consider Brom to be old-school. To me, old-school are people like Easley, Elmore, Caldwell, and Parkinson. Brom came along later.

I think Brom did a fantastic job of defining the look of Dark Sun, much like WAR defines Eberron today.
