The WotC Store

So, anyone that lives in the DC area, stop by Pentagon City and see me... :D

Well, I don't live there anymore, but I'm travelling there in two weeks. I might just stop by and shout "All Hail Queen_Dopplepopolis!" at the Pentagon City store. :D

They used to have a nice sized store here on Long Island (in the Roosevelt Field Mall). Full gaming area (though it was mostly used by CCG players), pretty good RPG section, nice mini-selection (with paints), extensive board game & puzzle offerings. They've since moved to a store that is barely 200 square feet, and have one small rack tucked away in the back for the RPG stuff. You can hardly see what books they have because they've piled them up on top of one another. I don't even go to the store any more to see what's available.

I don't know about other WotC stores, but my local one (Pleasant Hill) is just terrible. It recently moved from being a fair sized store in a mall to a shotgun shack kind of arrangement, feeling horribly claustraphobic.

Worse yet, it is (and has always been) primarily board games and puzzles, with rpgs shunted over into a corner, almost in embarassment. No one in the store seemed to know anything about anything aside from the Magic ccg.

I do as little business as possible with them.
Hit the nail on the head, Wombat. That place creeps me out. Fortunately, Games Unlimited is right around the corner, and those dudes actually know RPGs. And you don't have to hassle with a mall to get in.

It's like night and day.

So true!

Say hi to Rich for me the next time you're in there! ;)

P.S. I'm often in on Friday afternoons -- beared, glasses, etc.

The WotC store in the Mall of America in Minnesota is a joke. More like a Wallgreens crossed with a toy store. They sell all sorts of little crappy toys, and have a few shelves of RPG stuff. Their RPG stock seems to be continually diminishing as WotC slowly carries more and more non-WotC products.

Very very dissapointing.

Grew up in Oceanside. Spent nearly every day during the summer as a teen at Long Beach or Point Lookout. Been living in Bellmore for the last 10 years or so.

Depending on the last time you were there, the Roosevelt Field mall may have changed quite a bit. It's now very "upscale".

Sad, but true. There was a small WotC store in Plaza Bonita (South County, San Diego). It used to be crowded all the time with RPG-gamers and TCG-gamers. Last year, the moved in so many games it was hard for the store to have ten people inside at one time. Six months later it closed.

The WotC store in Mission Valley always carried a lot of board games; however they were kept in the rear of the store in library like shelves, which left the floor free for actual walking. D&D (and to a very, very small extent the Mongoose and FFG game books they carry) are one 4 shelves in the back and are typically a week or two behind the release dates for everything. Good store for picking up dice (they've got some good prices on dice :) ), trinkets, and a hard to find board game - the D&D books there are _solely_ a convenience; not a specialty or even focus among other specialties

I mean, come on. The Waldenbooks in Parkway Plaza has a bigger RPG display (Wotc, Mongoose, LotR, etc) right in the front of the store.
