They'd revoke my D&D gamer license if they knew....

Things that will get me guillotined once the Committee for Proper D&D establishes itself:

*I wish the stats were more evenly balanced--and I'd do this by dropping Strength modifiers to attacks and Dexterity modifiers to armor class.

*I think half-orcs raise too many issues to like them as a PC option. Give me hobgoblins or (better yet) Ravenloft's calibans.

*I think gnomes should have a favored class of either Sorcerer or Druid.

*I think the cleric needs serious retooling to make it broader and/or less essential to the game.

*I can't abide spellcasting bards.

*I think the magic system is the source of 75% of D&D's mechanical problems, being a bloated construct with no visible design logic to its components.

And the ones that are going to hurry my end most of all:

*I miss the days of bunches of different campaign settings, though I realize they're not economically viable for WotC any more.

*I love Tolkien but dislike Leiber and Moorcock.

*I think that 2E Player's Options: Skills & Powers was a great idea poorly implemented.

*I think that 3E's mechanics are a dramatic improvement . . . . but the game culture and philosophy have gotten trapped in a cul-de-sac of nitpicking balance, adversarial thinking, and general negativity. Then again, that could just be the Internet.

Why?

On a related note, I dislike the term "exotic weapon" when what they really mean is difficult or unusual in use. And monk weapons that aren't all that exotic: dammit, a kama is a sickle, a nunchuku is a flail, and a siangham is used just like shortsword.
Because it took years to train a longbowman, and days to train a handgunner. So the longbow is exotic and the hangonne is not. Simple, yes? I do agree with the RaW in that crossbows are simple weapons - they were the original point and click interface - align the pointer with the target and click to select...

I agree. Most of the monsters from WotC just...meh. I appreciate the pedigree that older monsters have.
That's because they have a sense of history... even if they're just as stupid or stupider

It's funny to point out how the 'hate' lists are usually much longer than the 'like' lists (if any is even provided!) ;)

Guess you can't be a RPG geek without hating 90% of something...

That I dislike dungeons, think monsters are way overused, and despise killing things and taking their stuff as a substitute for having adventures.

Hear! Hear!

'Exotic' means 'foreign', 'outlandish' in the literal senses, not the figurative ones. It is the opposite of indigenous, not of commonplace.

Wheat and cows are exotic to America, unlike maize and turkeys.

Or its easier to think of things you dislike as revoking a gamer license than things you like. I can't think of anything I like that would get my gamer license revoked. Given the topic of the thread I think you've got your point backwards. :)

It doesn't take years to learn to use a longbow; it takes years to use a longbow well, but that's true of anything. Sure, guns and crossbows are easier to pick up, but the longbow isn't more difficult to learn than a sword or axe.
