Thief, the Dark Project, the RPG?

Cool. I thought you forgot about this thread!
Naw, I just only get to really use EN World for the Hours and Hours I need to actually get much out of it at work. Slow job means lots of EN World. I'm trying to send it now, but I'm having SMTP issues. If it won't go through in an hour or so, I'll ask a friend to email it to you.

Edit: It's about 9EST, and the email seems to have been sent. Lemme know if it arrives in one piece.

Not quite true. Viktoria comes to mind.

Are there powerful casters in the Thief world? Sure, but they are extremely rare. I'd say that they are so rare that you don't even really need to design a magic "system" to account for them. If you are going to introduce a caster of that level in the campaign, you can make the NPC use a custom magic system. If the players will never use that level of magic, why bother implementing a system that accounts for it?

Once again, it goes back the unknown. The more mechanics you introduce, the more it takes away from the mystery of the setting.

I tried playing the first Thief game. I got stuck and soon there after bored trying to find my way. But I really liked the game.

What is the most recent version? I'm interested in trying again. I did a cursory search on the Web and it seems the company died?

Thief 3 was released last year. It's really good. Very, very creepy. I just finished a mission in a haunted former insane asylum and orphanage. Super creepy.

The shalebridge cradle is, without a doubt, just as scary as the Haunted Cathedral. Great ambients in there. Like the man said, Thief: Deadly Shadows was released 'recently' and it is very easy to play (it was disigned for consoles and doesn't live up to The Dark Project or The Metal Age, but that's only my gripe and my opinion). TDP and TMA are very nice; worth playing just for the story. It's a shame Looking Glass went under.. They were my God. Were I you, I'd look on eBay for Thief Gold and Thief: The Metal Age; they both rock. Many game stores have used copies, but you can never guarantee it. Deadly Shadows can still be bought from most major retailers.

As if the players knew what mechanics I was using... Bwahahahaha!

Since it doesn't matter, I'll use mechanics. I feel better when I do, even if I'm the only one who knows it.

Glassjaw, did the PDF arrive intact?

The Metal Age is by far my favorite of the series. And Deadly Shadows is dumbed down for consoles -- I'm playing it on the Xbox, though lock picking is tons of fun because you can pick it based on the vibration of the controller! I don't like that the mission levels are so small. They cut down their geographic size to make them work on the console. I miss the dreaded HUGE levels of the Metal Age.

As for Deadly Shadows the "Widow" mission is the creepiest for me. Atmospherics were through the roof, the puzzle was pretty neat. It took a lot of courage to work my way up those stairs!

I liked Thief Gold the best, personally. On the X-Box, the feedback is cool, but I was pissed when I played Deadly Shadows and saw the size of the levels. I'm just glad that Eidos released the Editor, so the community can go back to making crazy fanmissions and totally ignore the console restrictions. Thank God for the Through the Looking Glass forums.

When I played, it was like my mind was expecting Thief to become Doom 3 at any moment, with some huge monster leaping out of a wall to crush me to a bloody pulp. I loved the game, overall, I just had some points of contention.

What the hell is with the Keeper Enforcers?! How does THIS work!? Is that Balanced?! Feh.

Have there been any "official" non-fan fiction Thief-related novels published? Playing the game is like being in the movie, but I'd curl up with a book -- WITH THE LIGHTS ON.

Anyone else feel more "aware" of one's surroundings after playing. I think Thief grants the Alertness feat in real life. ;) I can tell who is coming by my office by their footsteps.
