[Thieves' World] Murder at the Vulgar Unicorn

Kadramis sees the ape-thing drop with barely disguised glee. "It's been too long since my last hunt," he says and pulls his Rankene cavalry sword from its sheath. "Time to drink blood my friend!" he murmers to the blade as he charges the creature, weapon raised with two hands for a killing blow.

When the scream rings out from the warehouse interior, Daeric throws caution to the winds and works at throwing open the window in the alley. If it doesn't open easily, he draws his sword to break the window and climb into the warehouse.

"Ils Eyes! What by the gods is that thing?"
Derleth takes aim at the creature with his light crossbow and fires a bolt at it.

Kadramis charges the creature, heavy sword held over his head. He covers the forty feet rapidly and brings the sword down hard. The agile beast sidesteps the blow and the sword slams into the wood floor with a loud thunk. Daeric reaches the window and sees that it does not open. The glass is set into a wood frame. He draws his sword and smashes the glass easily, the shards falling into the building and clattering noisily to the wood floor. He is then able to see the scene inside. Pace, Kadramis, Rossa and the ape-creature are about fifty feet away. He prepares to enter through the opening. Pace draws his shortsword and thrusts it towards the beast but his aim is bad and the sword pierces nothing but air. Derleth fires a bolt at the beast but it flies harmlessly past, his aim somewhat spoiled by Kadramis and Pace who are surrounding the ape-thing. Derleth is only able to determine that the beast is not a natural creature. Carvar crashes into the back doors, trying to force them open under his weight and brute strength. Something on the other side of the doors snaps with a loud crack and the doors open inward a few feet, revealing the scene inside to Carvar. Kadramis, Pace, Rossa and the beast are about thirty feet away from him. He sees Derleth standing in the doorway on the opposite side of the room, crossbow in hand. The beast lashes out at Pace, rending him with claws on both of its long arms (15 points of damage) and then tries to bite him but his teeth snap just in front of Pace's throat.

Kadramis heft his sword for another swing at the ape-thing. "Heqt guide my hand to slay this unnatural creature," he finds himself praying under his breath.

Kadramis swings his sword in an overhand arc, attempting to cut the beast in half from shoulder to hip but the sword misses as the agile beast sidesteps the vicious blow. Daeric climbs through the broken window, trying not to cut himself on the jagged pieces of glass remaining in the frame. Once inside, he closes to within about thirty feet of the combatants. Pace angles himself so he and Kadramis are flanking the beast. He stabs wildly at the ape-thing and nearly yells in triumph as his sword sinks deep into its midsection (11 damage). Derleth takes aim from the doorway and fires his crossbow again, trying another incredibly tough shot. (OOC: Remember that you are firing into melee and receive a -4 to hit without the feat Precise Shot) This time the bolt flies true, striking the creature solidly in the shoulder, causing it to grunt in pain (7 damage). Carvar charges the beast from the recently broken-open double doors. His off-balance swing misses and the head of the mace crashes into the floor with a thunk, gouging into the wood and sending several splinters flying into the air. Now surrounded and wounded, the beast turns wildly, his attention now on Kadramis. He lashes out with incredible speed with his claws, opening a deep wound on the godsworn's left arm and then sinking its teeth into his left shoulder close to the neck (8 damage).
