[Thieves' World] Murder at the Vulgar Unicorn

Cira stays a few steps behind the group as she follows, her eyes sweeping the roof and alley for signs of a lookout.

Daeric looks toward the front door of the warehouse, shrugs then follows Derleth around to the back keeping all senses alert.

“And here I thought we just wanted to talk.”

"That was my intention, but you know how some people can be touchy about others questioning their business. Going in weapons to bear is probably the wrong tactic, but we do need to be ready for trouble.
Also, do we really need to be trying to enter furtively? Nobody said this warehouse is supposed to be abandoned. I'd imagine it probably has to maintain the appearance of keeping business hours."

"I want to surprise this Pace if we can, and try to capture him for questioning. Everyone quiet while I check out the door." Derleth says in a low voice.

OOC: Derleth will check the side alley door using listen at +3 and try to hear if anyone is on the other side making any noise. If not then he will see if it's locked. If it is, he will use open lock at +4 , using his Thieves Tools. Once it's open he will lead the group in quietly, with crossbow ready to fire.

The group heads towards the warehouse, Derleth and Daeric in the lead, followed closely by Kadramis and Carvar. Cira trails slightly behind, eyes scanning the rooftops and alleyways nearby, looking for signs that the group is being watched. Cira sees and hears nothing out of the ordinary. No one seems to be watching the group as you all cross the street towards the alley on the west side of the building. There is still very little in the way of foot traffic on the streets, and no one is within two hundred feet of the warehouse except for the five investigators.

Daeric studies the warehouse as the group approaches and then enters the alley next to it. The building is somewhat rundown but Daeric is unable to determine if it is in actual use. Near the back of the alley on the west side of the building is a plain wood door. It is closed and might be locked, but no lock is visible on this side of it. A few feet from the door, almost at the back corner of the building is a small window. The window glass is milky in appearance, and almost opaque.

Derleth places his ear against the door but hears nothing. He tests the door carefully and finds it will not budge but there is no lock to attempt to pick. It is either locked from inside with no way to pick it from outside or is blocked somehow.

“I’ll check around the back just in case.” Carvar whispers to the others after seeing Derleth having trouble opening the door. Moving carefully and as quietly as he can Carvar moves down the ally, ducking below the window so not to cast a shadow upon it. Reaching the end of the warehouse Carvar peers around the corner to see if there is anyone there or if there is another entrance to the warehouse.

OOC: Is everyone still with me here?

IC:
Carvar makes his way to the back of the alley, taking care to avoid walking in front of the window. Reaching the corner of the building, he peeks around the back to see what's what. Behind the warehouse is a courtyard of sorts, large enough to fit several wagons and draft animals. The back of the warehouse has a large set of doors, big enough to admit a whole wagon and draft team into the building. There are no windows on the backside and no other people in sight.

OOC: Still here.

IC:
Kadramis follows Derleth, hand on the hilt of his sword. "Perhaps we should send someone through the front to door to flush him out, while others can watch the rear entrances?" he suggests.

Derleth looks to Kadramis and in hushed tone says in Rankene:

"Perhaps a sound idea Kadramis. Who shall we 'volunteer' to go in through the front door ?"

Then to the others in Sanctan:

"Anyone want to be the hound and flush this hare from it's warren while we harriers wait to snare him upon his exit?"

He looks to each of the members inquisitively.

"I'll flush the scoundrel, but perhaps someone with a bit more experience in dealing with Wrig... er... Sanctans, I mean, should come with me."

"All right Kadramis, we will go in the front together then, while Cira, Carvar, and Dearic watch the side and back exits."
"Just so long as you don't mind working side by side with a Wrigglie like myself." Derleth says with an exaggerated Sanctan accent.

He makes sure his crossbow is ready, and makes his way around to the front door of the warehouse.
"Should we knock or just let ourselves in, you think?"
He asks Kadramis.
