[Thieves' World] Murder at the Vulgar Unicorn

Derleth sets a shaboozh on the bar in front of Pegrin and looks at him with a serious intensity in his expression, his eyes cold and piercing.

"Much thanks Pegrin for your help in this matter. Anything else you hear about Pace or these Silent Brothers, I'm sure you will let me know. I know you wish to find the killer as badly as the rest of us and return your business to its ussual busy state. We shall certainly want to check out this warehouse for Pace's wherabouts or talk with anyone who knows him"

Derleth turns to face Kadramis as he enters the Unicorn.

"Ah he shows up at last! Kadramis of Ranke I presume? You do fit the description I was givin. " ,he says in perfect Imperial Rankene with only a hint of Sanctan drawl.

Derleth looks directly into Kadramis' eyes, fixing him with his steely gaze of gray blue eyes, seemingly looking both at him and beyond him at the same time.

" My name is Derleth and I am working for the Magistrate to help you four witnesses find the person who mudered Erilissi last night. Have you found out anything on your own that may be of help?" ,switching to his native Sanctan dialect this time.

"Almost forgot. Do you have any idea who Erilissi might have been waiting for? Had there been anyone in looking for him recently?"

Pegrin turns to Daeric. "No. In fact, I don't believe this Erilissi had ever been in here before last night."

Pegrin grins and snatches up the coin. "Sure thing, I'll let you know if I learn more."

Cira leans in close to whomever is nearby. "He was rather accomodating, no? Gave up any information rattling around in his head with little prompting."

ooc: Maybe he's just an honest, open guy in Sanctuary. Right. Or maybe our DM is just being generous... :)

Cira leans in close to whomever is nearby. "He was rather accomodating, no? Gave up any information rattling around in his head with little prompting."

“He seems honest enough, which is rare around here for sure.” Carvar answers Cira. “I take it we are going to the warehouse next?” Carvar asks the group.

Daeric sets his own shaboozh out on the bar.

"We all thank you for the assistance, Pegrin, and I hope things settle down for you soon. It's a shame to see this place so empty."

Daeric then turns to answer Carvar as Kadramis enters.

"That would be the next logical step unless Kadramis has had better luck at getting information than we have."

Cira nods at Carvar's response, but keeps her mistrust of the situation quiet as the group plans the next step in the investigation.

Kadramis finds the Vulgar Unicorn much more quickly than last time. Perhaps it's the clearer weather or maybe he is actually getting more used to the winding streets of the Maze. His mind feels strangely clear, a side effect of lack of sleep. Whatever the cause, he's feels like he's getting his second wind.

As he enters the tavern, he's surprised to be hailed in his own tongue by a stranger. He takes in the scene and nods in greeting to his assembled companions from last night. (Or at least to any who aknowledge his presence.)

"Hail to my fellow 'suspects'," he says with a wry smile. "Haven't solved the case yet, eh? So the Sharda's even given us more help?" He nods toward Dereleth. "This Erilisi guy must've been more important than he appeared...

"Anyway, I've got good news. I found out that these Silent Brothers are new with the Maze, and are few in number. We should be able to handle them. Apparantly they are none too subtle in their actions either and can often be seen parading through the area with their boar's headed daggers out for all to see."

"Hm... so it's not a lot but it's all I could find. I admit my source is more of an expert on certain... spiritual matters. So, I guess I'm not surprised she didn't know more about a gang of street toughs."

He also hails Pegrin, "Barkeep, my apologies for the mess last night... a tragic waste of decent wine." This gives him an idea.

"Hey everyone, how about some breakfast? If we're going to continue on, we'll need something to give us some fortitude. Is the kitchen open, keeper?"

"Aye, the kitchen is open such as it is and your coin is certainly not going to be turned away," Pegrin says, snatching up the latest coin offered by Daeric and making it disappear just as fast. "I have some fairly fresh bread, baked wit' a bit of ale in the dough. Got some stew left over from last night too that should still be edible. Give me a minute or three to fetch it and you all can have it, on the house." He bows slightly and then takes his leave of you, heading off to gather the food.

With Pegrin gone and no other customers in the room, the tavern is unnervingly quiet.

After Pegrin leaves the bar front to gather the food from the kitchen, Derleth turns to the others and says in his native Sanctan:
"Well, for those of you new to Sanctuary, you should know the Vulgar Unicorn is not exactly known for its fine food. In fact, those of you with sensitive stomachs may want to just pick up something to eat in the Bazaar. But hey, a free meal is a free meal. I could go for a bit of grub before we set out for the warehouse."

Turning to Kadramis he asks him, still speaking Sanctan for everyone else's benefit:

"So how do you propose we confront the members of these 'Silent Brothers', walk right up to them and ask them if they killed Erilissi? You don't want to underestimate any group of notoriety in Sanctuary, especially in The Maze. It can cost you your life. We don't know for certain how many of them are in the 'Silent Brothers' and we need to get to the core of thier group, thier leader, not just interrogate the flunkies. If this was a contracted assassination, somebody high up the food chain ordered it."

Speaking to the group collectively he adds:

"I think we should check out the lead on the warehouse first, since we at least know who we are looking for there, but we need to come up with a plan for infiltrating the 'Silent Brothers' gang. It's not going to be as straighforward as looking for this ruffian Pace."
