Things that annoy you as a PC

Things that annoy me as a PC...

DMs who will cheat players out of a rightfully-earned victory so they won't have to abandon the plot they had all planned out. For example, the PCs get some lucky rolls and reduce the BBEG to 2 hit points, but the DM wants to keep using that villain, so he comes up with something like "Uhhh, he uses his ring of teleport and disappears."

DMs who railroad the PCs and never let them make any important decisions. Of course, everybody hates these kind of DMs.

DMs with "pet NPCs." For these DMs, the NPC is the star of the campaign, and the PCs are always in his or her shadow.

DMs who hype up how cool their upcoming campaign is going to be for weeks (or months) before it actually begins, and then they abandon the campaign after only 2 or 3 sessions.

DMs who are anal-retentive about roleplaying, and get mad when someone makes an out-of-character comment.

okay ther eare some things that I have that I hate in a game. I've been role playing since I was 12 so I have developed some preferences over the years. here they are

As a Player:
- When the DM hands out too much treasure/magic items
- When the DM is a Storyline Nazi
- I don't want the DM to play to win...but I need a sense of Danger,
I hate it when the DM is too timid with the players
- When the DM plays a NPC and the NPC outshines the group
- When the DM picks a member of the group and they become
a "golden boy/girl" and the adventures focus around him/her,
I am talking about a constant thing here, if everybody has a
turn then it's good
- When the DM advances you a few levels in a night.

As a DM
- Players whining about treasure/monsters/etc. I am careful to
balance things in my game
- players forget the difference between player vs. character knowledge
- rewinding - when we are fighting a combat and have finished player
A's turn and gone onto player B and player A interupts and says
something along the lines of "oh by the way I did 20 points of damage
not 15". I really hate this, it's disruptive and then I have to go back
and change stuff. I have a anti-rewind rule at my table once your
turns over too bad
- players take too long in combat, by looking up rules etc.
- player A is giving advice to player B when player A and B's characters
are not together. I can understand if someone is new, but if
not....forget it

My old DM did this to my group once. We had maanged to get his DM NPC BBEG down to 75 health, while that may sound like he still had a lot of HP. My group was rolling fairly well on damage. He had the Barbarian mix an alchemical potion in the MIDDLE of battle that healed him for over 200 hit points. And now that I DM him, he accuses me of breaking the rules. :mad:

EDIT: He also seems to think that Barbarians, as a whole, are good at alchemy.

Rogues who steal from other PCs. Even more so when they are taking something they have absolutely no use for, such as a ring of wizardry.

DMs who think its agood idea to arm standard ghouls with crossbows.

Players who constantly argue about why their character is better than yours.

You realise that by enforcing "no rewinds", you're forcing people to go look up the rules and make sure everything is perfect before they let the next guy have his turn, right?
 

Having to ask 101 divination questions before we can do anything.

Having to ask 101 divination questions because there are no other sources of information available (ever). I guess all those social skills were really worth it :mad:

NPCs or PCs that you just can't kill no matter how hard you try.

GMs with non-playing significant others sitting at the game table. "Really so- and-so won't cause any problem at all."

Trying to accomplish something alone with all the other players adding their helpful hints...hint...hint...

GM NPCs whose only reason to exist is to give you a hard time.
