Thinking about getting a DDI subscription for the group

Is there some kind of group package for D&D Insider? Is there any reason why a group can't share login and password info for DDI? Does WotC have any kind of position on this?

A couple of us have talked about pitching in on an account. I'd prefer it if there was a "your gaming group" package we could get legitimately, but we're clearly not interested in buying separate accounts for nine people.

Thanks for any info!

I am unaware of any group plans, but it's possible they will add them whenever the game table comes out.

My opinion, if you are a DM, you really should get it. The price is just too good for what you get.

I think the character generator makes it a clear choice for players to own too. Technically, the only thing that might hold you back from sharing an account is if they track different IP addresses logging in at the same time under the same account. But i don't know if they would bother with that or not.

Yeah, I'm not sure if they do track multiple IPs logged in at the same time, but you can definitely use it on multiple computers. As long as you or whomever is going to pay for it is comfortable allowing the others to access your account information (I'd still wipe my credit card number from the visible fields), I wouldn't see a problem with getting an account and passing out the password.

Tracking IPs wouldn't work, since part of their audience are DMs, often those that game with their laptop. If they travel and can't use wireless to access the DDI, then it's not effective.

Someone posted about this a month or so ago, and apparently at least unofficially WotC's ok with an entire group using a single account.

At the very least, I wouldn't worry about it unless you're bothered by the ethical concerns. Worst case scenario is the account gets shut down, then you just make new ones and have everyone get one.

Yeah I'd say officially the answer is probably that the digital item belongs to the person who bouight it, and sharing is illegal. (Like a downloaded pdf.)

Unofficially they probably aren't paying much attention.

One thing I will say is:

Make sure you absolutely trust the people you give the password to. Remember if you buy it ultimately it's your name on the line not theirs.

I think it would work fine for what D&D Insider offers right now, although it's already been mentioned that sharing the digital magazine files could be considered illegal firesharing.

But when the Game Table goes live, assuming you plan on using that feature as a group, sharing an account probably will not work. But then again, that could be years down the road! (sigh)

Thanks, guys!

That's actually exactly my concern. Since WotC is apparently okay with groups using a single account, I feel fine about it. I think I'll pitch it to the group... :)

I read on the wizards forums (somewhere) that once the character builder comes out there will be a limit to how many times per month it can be downloaded or updated using the same account. I think that number was five. You might want to check on that.
