This is a simple Puzzle...

Okay.. after that last puzzle which ended someones campaign... and to avoid posting in a thread where, we probably will NEVER get the answer.. because A... the DM who provided Roman with said puzzle, will never post to the thread, simply because so many people have stated the same general opinion. Puzzles that end a game are bad, puzzles that don't allow alternatives to solving them via in game intelligence tests are bad, DM's who hinge campaigns upon solving a puzzle.. are bad.

So I'm going to put up a simple puzzle. This was taken from an actual ongoing game. But note that NOTHING hinges upon answering it. (Y'all are smart enough to figure this out.. so I'll post the answers if they haven't somehow been answered shortly.) (p.s. To those who instantly recognize the answer to the puzzle.. because you've seen it before.. Shhh!!! Let some others have fun.. where none of us have anything riding on the outcome!)

& This one is interelated... so working with one can help solve the other..

There are multiple methods for solving this method.. including using known methodology.. or simply by hammering it out sans methodology key.

And as an aside.. I would be less bothered by this type of puzzle in a game, than an obscure riddle.. or physical puzzle using symbology to accomplish.

the A in KZADD should probably be an S.

Given that some of the words are names, Isn't it a bit mean to use them in a cypher without proper context?

I know this one too, and yes - you should put it in the proper context because of the personal names.

Okay.. I can put this into a more proper context. Though personally, it isn't terribly important to know the base context. But it can make this a little easier to slog through.

This is related to the Matrix. Yes.. that Matrix.

Out of curiosity, where in the matrix is this from? Is it in a movie, or is it one of the anime/game/comic/etc. spinoffs?

Hammerhead is correct... (though I figured he would add in the second portion as well.. *Grin*)

And Arscott this is related to The Matrix Online. You can find them both in the Sentinal ledger from the MxO home page.

Ding! That's the sound of a nail being hit on a head. It's okay to give a simple logic puzzle to a couple of computer engineers and an MIT graduate when it's obvious that they can just scratch out an exclusion table to come up with the solution -- it gives 'em a change of pace. It's when a puzzle inhibits the pace of the game that it becomes a problem.

So the 2 questions that occur to me are:
1) Are my players going to know how to approach this in the way I intend it?
2) How can I accomodate them if they're just not in the mood to approach it at all?

::Kaze (wonders if any DM decisions in the game shouldn't have these questions applied to them...)
