This year alone I've seen over 50 movies in the theater, let alone the movies I bought on DVD.

Well, I got nothing better to do.

Movie title (country of origin). These movies are not ranked.

Bin-Jib (South-Korea)
Ghost in the Shell: Innocence (Japan)
War of the Worlds (US)
The Machinist (US, I think, Spanish director, so I'm not sure)
Green Hat (China)
Steamboy (Japan)
Code 46 (??)
Appleseed (remake, Japan)
Avalon (Poland and Japan)
Calvaire (Belgium)
The Jacket (US, again I'm not sure)
Tale of Two Sisters (South-Korea)
Old Boy (South-Korea)
Constantine (US)
Kingdom of Heaven (US)
Star Wars:ROTS (US)
Madagascar (US)
Ferpect Crime (that is correctly spelled, Spain)
Nothing (Canada)
Satan's Little Helper (US)
Are you still reading this?
Memories of Murder (South-Korea)
A sword in the Moon (South-Korea or Japan)
Breaking News (China)
Casshern (Japan)

My brain died. Maybe I'll think of the rest later. Maybe not. Maybe I'll get hit by a raging moose. Who knows?

Hand, the interesting stories are that 1) Fox anticipated that FF would make in the mid-30 mil for it's opening weekend--this is an improvement over that of, what, 70 some odd percent? and 2) This is the first weekend in months that has had higher overall ticket sales than this time last year.

All this despite the fact that FF was plagued by bad word of mouth and critical reviews. Now, personally, I didn't think it was nearly as bad as the critics made out, but it certainly wasn't anything remarkable, and it's odd to think of it beating estimates so far, not to mention leading the weekend that breaks the month's long decline in ticket sales vs. last year.

IMO, that's because the FF is a great human story; there are a lot of non-super-powered things going on in the story that can resonate with a lot of people. Also, the posters evoked (wonderfully so) the feel of some of the old-school fantastic four comic books and story-records from the 60's and 70's. (I wonder if anyone else owned that 33 1/3 lp record with the origin and Mole Man stories on it?)

Found it.

Wow, that brings back memories (and sadness since I damaged my record back in the late 70's) :)

1. When I saw it I was surprised at the number of kids (10 to 16 year olds) in to see it, it was family friendly and I think that brought in a large number that help push in the take, all the other movies really have been date movies or should I say appealing to older demographic (my take) 2. I agree overall this has been a lackluster year for movies dollars, I don't know if it is do to last year being better in quaility or this year being weaker, I want to say DVD sales maybe having a impact but... ;)

It will be interesting as always to see how it does this next week but I do not see too much to prevent it from beating it, unless Wedding Crashers kicks ass.

The reviews scared the Mrs. and me away from FF...we did a coin toss between Batman Begins and WotW. Unfortunately, it was "tails", so we went to see WotW...which is appropriate, since WotW sucked a**, IMO.

Looking forward to the Wedding Crashers...not a big fan of Owen Wilson, but I have a man-crush on Vince Vaughn.

Not a fan of Owen! My take, he is one of the great 'B' lists actors, he can't carry a movie by himself but when mixed with other 'B' lists actors raises the quaility of the movie, like the old comic straight man. I understand he is a producer on a good many movies and a writer too but don't know if this is fact.
