Hand of Evil

Hero
Epic
Well, the numbers are in...
1. “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” $30 million.
2. “The Terminal,” $18.7 million.
3. “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” $17.4 million.
4. “Shrek 2,” $13.6 million.
5. “Garfield: The Movie,” $11 million.
6. “The Stepford Wives,” $9.2 million.
7. “The Chronicles of Riddick,” $8.3 million.
8. “The Day After Tomorrow,” $7.55 million.
9. “Around the World in 80 Days,” $6.8 million.
10. “Troy,” $1.7 million.

Looks like no one wanted to see Around the World but Dodgeball number 1. Big drop for Chronicles.

I'm a little surprised that Dodgeball is beating The Terminal... though to be fair, on first glance the premise for The Terminal looks really dumb. I've heard that it's a good movie... not Hank's or Spielburg's greatest, but good.

I can't beleive Dodgeball did so well. It looks so stupid.
I guess this is why Ben Stiller is always working, what is this like his third movie this year! :heh:

Along came Polly
Starky & Hutch
Dodgeball

It won't matter in eight days when everyone will be fighting for business over Spidey. Stiller is an OK actor and comedian IMHO. Sometimes he's worth watching, sometimes not. C'mon though, Dodgeball at number one in the summer. Some folks 's got problems.

Well, perhaps part of the problem is that Spidey is coming up. Nobody who wants to hold a top spot for a while wants to start their movie just before Spidey comes out. Poor strategy to release when a really big movie is going to steal all your wind. This is one of the stated reasons why Sky Captain's release got moved to September, for example.

That is not fair and rude to everyone who went to see it....

Some reasons:

1) I went to see it and enjoyed it, I like Stiller.
2) It is PG-13 and it was Father's Day weekend, so a possible older family movie
3) I work full time as a state law enforcement officer and Dodgeball made me laugh in a time where I get terror level increasing e-mails and more stress every day.
4) The female I was with did not want to see Riddick etc..., she wanted a comedy.

It is a good, easy no brainer laugh and for that it worked great.

It may be just what America needs a no brainer silly comedy!

So let her watch dodgeball while you go see Riddick. ;)

Seriously, I'm just disappointed in the box office numbers for the past week. I was really hoping Riddick would earn enough to greenlight the two potential sequels. (It was written to potentially serve as the first of a trilogy.) It's not looking like that's going to happen now, unless it rakes in some major over-seas bucks and DVD sales. :(

If you look at the list of movies that are out right now, Dodgeball is the only adult comedy out right now. Everything else is basically meant for kids as well. I guess the majority of american adults and teens decided that they had gone far too long without having some type of sexual humor. :\
