This Weekend at the Boxoffice - 06/28/2004

Caught Dodgeball this weekend; we laughed a lot. :) Other than Spiderman, though, I am having trouble thinking of one movie coming out this summer that I'm really really itching for.

And... (mod hat on) ... again, let's try to avoid making this a political thread. It's hard since the #1 movie this week is a political movie, but still ... please do your best to show restraint.

Spiderman I will certainly see. Everything I've heard and seen is promising. Arthur, OTOH, I am still considering. It doesn't look very promising, but it is King Arthur.

After Spiderman, there are only two movies that I am interested in seeing, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Bourne Supremacy. King Arthur maybe a surprise but... ;)

Let's see, I've seen HP3, Shrek2, and Garfield (as well as 80 Days which fell off the list), and would probably rate those three in that order (with 80 days slotting in above Garfield, barely). I will also see The Terminal sometime, but these days I always seem to be busy.

Well, Shrek 2 has done extremely well, but other than that there haven't really been any mega-blockbusters so far this year.

Although I expect that Spider-Man 2 will make a healthy wad of cash. My local theater has been selling advance tickets for a couple of weeks now, and most of the showings on opening day are sold out.

I just think Hollywood is pricing themselves for losses, hoping more on profit from DVD sales.

Well, I saw Shrek 2, but that was a week or so ago. My girlfriend and I want to see the Chronicles of Riddick, but haven't yet and it's already off the top ten. Better go this weekend. King Arthur? Eh... Anything that goes for a historical feel and then throws Lancelot in loses me for its accuracy right away as Lancelot doesn't get added to the mythology for a few hundred years.

Spider Man 2 is looking good so far but I don't know what other summer movies are. I, Robot looks stupid. Catwoman looks extremely stupid. Maybe I'll have to check out the Farenheight movie, but I already don't like Bush and follow several news sources so it shouldn't present too much new.

Except that it opened in 868 theaters, so it make about $25000 a theater, while White Chicks, made about 7000 in each of the 2726 theaters it opened in.

Now that I consider impressive, but doesn't change the fact that first place with $22 mil isn't, which was my point.

Profit margin has to be ungodly. But I agree a weak weekend in dollars taken in.
