Why anyone would rather see Dodgeball then Riddick is way beyond me.
Because while Dodgeball does look very, very silly, the scene in the commercial where Rip Torn flings a wrench at that guy always makes me laugh. I don't know why. I'm cognizant of exactly how stupid it is, but that man says, "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball," and I'm laughing. If the rest of the movie can deliver 3 or 4 laughs of that quality, it's worth matinee price.

The Riddick marketing, on the other hand, confirm my suspicions that someone takes Vin Diesel (and the rest of the movie) way more seriously than is healthy. If the commercials feel that overwrought, I can't imagine plunking down money to see more.

Just my opinion, of course, YMMV.

Around the World in 80 Days is no more of a kids' movie than Dodge Ball. It's got lots of good Jackie Chan fighting action, a hot actress, and a reasonably charming lead.
And it's getting killed. $7.5 million? Man, that's gotta sting. Another disaster for Jackie and for Disney.

After The Tuxedo, Shanghai Knights and The Medallion, Jackie's got to be scrambling a little. Hope New Police Story raises the bar somewhat -- but it doesn't have Maggie as his girlfriend! WTF?

Aha. A little more research determines that she declined to appear in it. Guess she's had enough of getting dropped out of helicopters.

I guess I'm having a bit of trouble thinking of a disney movie as an adult comedy. And like I said before, most adults are probably (hopefully) mature enough to admit that a movie fit for a younger audience as well as older, could still qualify as a good movie. It's the teenagers who wouldn't be caught dead in a Disney owned film (even if they secretly want to see it anyway) who will go to Dodgeball or any other slightly more crude comedy.

As I see it, the movies are good babysitters, so ma and pa drop off the kids so they can go do their thing. I used to get this at my old work(a large book chain with BnN size stores). Just drop the kids off for a few hours and run your errands. Movie theaters get the same thing. "Yeah mom we're going to go see (insert G rated movie here)", but as soon as they get in the theater they go see Dodgeball or other similar movies since, as Enchantress pointed out, they aren't about to go see Disney type movies, especially the 13-17 crowd that can go see PG-13 movies with Pamela Anderson's and Carmen Electra's "enhancements" popping out on a 50' screen. I would have done the same if my parents had dropped me off at the babysi...er movie theater by myself.
