Those Wacky D&D Tables

36-50. She was an 'everyhooker' type character AIR.

Naaah, she was a pretty well-off hooker. Like one o' them hoity toity Vegas hookers. No cocaine, no brutal pimp, no crazy STD's, no visible marks from other clients....you could charge quite a bit for that expensive doxy

The tables were there because they were part of the rules. I'm not quite sure what "weird, wild and wacky!" has to do with it. Gary's "obsession"...? You'd probably be better off asking him directly.

If I had to wager a guess I'd say that it has to do with all wargames of the time using easy reference charts, and AD&D (and D&D to a lesser extent) following along those design lines.

I love tables and charts like that.

Heck, I wrote up a two-page PDF once that had the charts and tables for creating a random 'common bawdy house'.

Tee hee, Brazen Strumpet...
The Brazen Strumpet is the name of a free trader in my Traveller game, as is Haughty Courtesan. The Slovenly Trull, on the other hand, is a vile corsair best avoided. . .

If you like the Random Harlot Table, you'll love Seventh Sanctum.

Alcove, acolyte, cistern... I started kind of early so a lot of words came to me through D&D. Its a little scary to think how much of an effect gaming has had on me. Acolyte is my own personal Gazeebo, I didn't know what the hell one was and neither did the guy running the game. We figured it was some sort of gargoyle.

I have a friend who used to yell "Slovenly Trull!" all the time. It's kind of nice to know the reference.
