D&D 5E Thoughts on playing Elf in Out of the Abyss [SPOILERS]

In fact, a player may well choose "my elf just survived because!" on the spot (and that's fine) but later start to regret choosing such a simple solution.

Out of curiosity, is it ever even addressed again in the adventure? Is there a side chapter devoted to getting revenge on the house that took you prisoner or something?

The Priestess Ilvra and a force of drow follows the party trying to hunt them down for the entire first half of the adventure inorder to recapture them.

Also just found out that that it's possible for the party to start the adventure over later on in the adventure. There is an artifact they can find if they follow certain clues. The artifact warps reality and one of the d100 results it can get warps the Player Characters back in time to the Drow Cell they started in. However they keep all their levels and equipment and memories, so if it happens will be around level 13 or so.

That is hilarious.

Interesting, OK, so it does sound like it matters a bit more than just the initial starting point.

That's pretty awesome.

Drow priestesses and nobles would pay alot of gold for the chance to destroy or sacrifice surface elves. Ilvra simply won't let anything happen to these creatures because they almost guarantee her advancing out of this outpost. Honestly, her insane chase of the player characters throughout the Underdark makes more sense if the PC's are elves in this case.

He was. Twenty-four hours ago, after days of humiliation and torment, the drow finally got bored with you and slit your throat.

But something has gone wrong, and your soul didn't move on. Instead, you wake up, battered and bruised but, somehow, once again alive.

"Shadow over Menzoberranzan"? :)

I was thinking this same thing but slightly differently - they do kill you on sight, but remember that the Drow Priestess has raise dead . . . the text of the adventure even mentions she is willing to use it to rez players to keep them alive after they escape.

So, how about they torture your elf character to death every day until the escape? Or kill you and wait the maximum time for raise dead, bring you back, torture you to death again and repeat. I would add some exhaustion as well. Drives home the point that surface elves are special, gives a chance for some great role playing, and really makes the elf character mad at the Drow. Maybe a level of madness too.

Thanks to the OP for bringing up the point, although my elf player will rue the day his ancestors wronged the Drow!
