I'd be more inclined to support a 4E tag for threads. I doubt there would be enough traffic in a dedicated 4E subforum.

An official thread tag would give the rumors more legitimacy than they deserve. We've already got a "WTF?" tag. [Edit: WTF? only shows up in the Search function.]

I'm with Crothian on this one.

ENWorld does have a crack team of ninja moderators (riding dinosaurs) that respond quickly to problems. But what ENWorld does not have is a crack team of ninja pirates that are forcing people at sword-point to read threads. If the 4E threads are bothersome, don't read them. If seeing 4E themed thread titles is so offensive, I don't think that's a problem with the board, or a problem with posters. I think that's a problem with the people being offended. Even more so with those people who are thread-crapping.

What does having a tag do for the forums? I'm seriously asking. Is there a way to ignore (via function) certain categories? Will the tag serve a purpose that having "4E" in the thread title doesn't serve?
