D&D 4E [Thread from 2005] Ridiculing People Who Want to Talk About 4E - Okay on ENWorld?

Bigfoot bit my sister.

Maybe it was a moose.

I'll add that I'm still unclear why there is so much animosity whenever ANY subject (not just this one) shows up in more than one thread. If something ain't my cup of tea (and after I've checked it for rule-breaking) then I ignore it. There's a METRIC :):):):)LOAD of threads here whose topics I have NO interest in, yet they keep popping up, and I keep ignoring them and replying to the stuff that DOES interest me.
In all seriousness, I think Henry is on to something here.

I'm bummed that my 4E category thread got closed but whatever.

I'm not a fan of the 4E threads to begin with. But I also tend to stay out of them.

What did bother me though was that there is an actual category for 4E threads. I find this ridiculous and idiotic to be honest. If people want to keep talking about it, fine. But a separate category implies that 4E is already a given. Does someone know something that I don't?

Was the decision to add a 4E just because people are creating threads on it? What if all of a sudden there are a lot of threads on how harpies reproduce? Will that get a separate category as well?

What's wrong with lumping the 4E threads in with General?

I like it as the more generic title, myself, because it covers rumors, humor, as well as the eventual threads about the real thing (which WILL happen, just not in the forseeable future.)

Fact of the matter is that UNTIL it is announced the tags should be "4E Speculation" and if/when it is announced straight up "4E" tags should be introduced so that people can easily distinguish between the actual facts and the speculation that came before. With the amount of thread necromancy that goes on around here, it would be a nightmare trying to know what is actual news and what will just have been some random gamer's thoughts on the matter.

Too much variant discussions, especially now, that there is a tongue-in-cheek one going on at this moment. :p

If I might make a request, could this new tag please be called "4E Rumors," or something similar? That would make it clear to new posters that anything in the threads is speculation rather than fact. I think calling it simply "4E" will just cause confusion, as people will assume there actually exists a 4E to have discussions about.

4E is already turning into some kind of urban legend, like Bigfoot, where people believe in it despite the lack of evidence for its existence. Having a tag for it, without clarifying the name, seems like it will just add fuel to the fire.
You must be reading much more than I have, because I haven't seen anyone "confused" by whether 4E exists. I do believe it is hard for people to get anywhere in their discussions/speculations/question/concerns about 4E when most of the responses are of the "Oh, no! Not again!"
It's obvious people want to talk about it. Let them. You don't have to read these threads if you don't want to. Please let people have the discussions they want.

What if there was a thread on D&D and Satanism, every week?

What if there was a thread on how to make your parents' basement more livable, every week?

What if there was a thread on suicides caused by D&D, every week?

What if there was a thread on how D&D was created strictly for playing LotR, every week?

All of the above are myths/rumors, just like 4E. Would folks be saying, "Oh, just let them talk about it, as much as they want. Just don't read the threads if you don't like it."? Would we get a "Satanism" tag? A "LotR" tag*?

[* I know there is a LotR tag in the Book forum.]

It's against board policy.

I wouldn't read them.

I think you're just pissed because it's something you don't like and want the mods to fix it NOW. They can't, and usually don't, tell people how/what to post unless it is a) against board policy or b) starts to cripple the ability for posters to find other information.

1 post a week on an RPG topic is not against board policy and does not hinder people from viewing other information. The Ep3 topics, on the other hand, took up almost an entire page and people without the search function were screwed.

In this instance, I have not seen an influx of 4e threads. True, there are now 3 or 4 but so what? It doesn't move all the other posts to the bottom of the page. It is nothing but an annoyance. EN World does not give it "credibility" by creating a group. Whether it's the Love, Family, WotC, 4E group, whatever, they all have the same purpose; they make it easier for readers to skip/read the posts they really want to.

goes against the religion ban on topics

What if there was a thread on how to make your parents' basement more livable, every week?

gores in off topic

What if there was a thread on suicides caused by D&D, every week?

depends if they are refernceing something happening now or refferring back to suicides 20 years ago.

What if there was a thread on how D&D was created strictly for playing LotR, every week?

These threads are fun and we frankly need more of them. Of course once Gary posts in or someone links to one of his many posts on ther subject, the thread is over.

So, would we be allowed to speculate on PHB2? Where do we draw the lines on what can be speculated about and what can't? Can I speculate about what is going to be in Mission Impossible 3?

So what, if enough wanted to talk about it.
What if there was a thread on how to make your parents' basement more livable, every week?
Quite off topic, I think those people would be better served on a board for home improvement. ;)
What if there was a thread on suicides caused by D&D, every week?
If people here need to talk about it, ok.

If there were enough threads, maybe they would get those tags. If they are D&D related. If enough people want to talk about those topics. I don't have a problem with it. The tags help me to find threads I want to get involved in, and help me avoid those I am not interested in.
