D&D 4E [Thread from 2005] Ridiculing People Who Want to Talk About 4E - Okay on ENWorld?

EN World does not give it "credibility" by creating a group. Whether it's the Love, Family, WotC, 4E group, whatever, they all have the same purpose; they make it easier for readers to skip/read the posts they really want to.
I like the idea of ENWorld giving credibility to Love and Family. :)

All of the above are myths/rumors, just like 4E. Would folks be saying, "Oh, just let them talk about it, as much as they want. Just don't read the threads if you don't like it."? Would we get a "Satanism" tag? A "LotR" tag*?

The 4E category was not just created for those who WANT to discuss 4E, it was also created for those who DON'T want to discuss it. It's easier to not only find, but separate from other categories, as well. When enough people start discussing "basketweaving skill in D&D" on a week-in, week-out basis, it'll probably get its own topic, to help discussers as well as detractors.

For something people don't want to discuss, 4E sure gets a lot of discussion time. Like I said earlier, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy... :)

Oh don't you dare start up with that "basketweaving" crap again!

 :p

I think you're just pissed because it's something you don't like and want the mods to fix it NOW.
OK. Discussion on a subject means I'm pissed and want it fixed NOW. ?? Nevermind that I have not read or posted in any of the 4E threads other than this one (so I've nothing to be pissed at), and I was actually speaking *against* "fixing" anything (adding a 4E tag).

Fine. You win. When the debate comes down to "you're just pissed and want the mods to change it", no further discussion is really going to be productive.

So is this a discussion or a debate? And it's not me you have to convince you're right; I don't run the board.

What if there was a thread on how to make your parents' basement more livable, every week?

If it talkabout playing games in your parents basement, BiggusGeekus would be quite happy.

I'm firmly in the much ado about nothing camp. If it's about a subject that you don't like or annoys you, don' go in the thread. Simple.

WotC employees have plainly and clearly said that no such product is in the works and until they say otherwise it is a slap in their face for any part of a News site to treat them like liars, something implied by a number of posters in those 4E threads and much more flagrant rules violation than the so-called "ridicule" that some people are complaining about, btw.

Id like to draw a little extra attention to this point.

I dont have a problem with people talking about what they wish was in 4E or wondering when its going to appear.

But in every one of the 4E threads I have read, several posters talk about how its on the way any second now, usually coupled with a doomsday scenario about how this is being done because 3E is failing, D&D is failing in Hasbro's eyes, D&D is about to be sold, etc etc ad nauseum.

Then a WOTC employee like Mike Mearls will pop and say its not happening, that D&D is doing fine financially etc and posters will attack him as a mindless corporate zomboid spin-meister.

*THAT* is one of the main things I have seen "ridiculed", and since the mods don't seem very interested in WOTC employees being attacked when they post on the boards, I think it SHOULD be ridiculed.

Or any thread about 4E or WOTC's financial health that degenerates into attacks on WOTC employees helpful enough to post actual information closed immediately.

I have on occasion (certainly not every 4e thread) posted along the lines of "Oh no, not another 4e thread", but after reading this thread I do believe I was in error to post like that.

If people are posting to and enjoying the threads (which really aren't *that* disruptive) then they should be allowed to. They are still a small percentage of the threads that happen here everyday when considered in the grand scheme of things. If I am tired of seeing them, I would do more good to simply ignore them and certainly not posting "witty" comments in them kicking them right back up to the main page. My occasional "witty" comment is just as guilty of keeping them on the main page as comments that actually have bearing on the thread.
