The Faerie Woods [Knight Otu Judging]

A completed adventure, and a fine one, too. This one grew out of The Burning Tower, and established both more of Orussus and a new location on the edge of the Silverwood.

Here we go:

  • Next door to Rilithorne’s Tower in Orussus is a jewelry named Gontor’s Fine Jewelery. The sign out front says that they open at 10:00 am.
  • There is a hitching post near Gontor’s Jewelry.
  • Gontor’s Jewelry in Orussus has a vault of high quality steel.
  • Gontor’s Jewelry in Orussus has a tiled floor.
  • The Faerie Woods are a small area in the southernmost part of the Silverwood, 60 miles north of Orussus. They are next to the Larkenwold Reach.
  • A truce between men and fey was concluded about 200 years ago; the result is that men agreed to never settle in the Faerie Woods and druids bound the worst of the fey to the Woods.
  • "A few hours ride" followed by "a few more hours" north of Orussus on the road to Rivenblight is a small roadside inn. It has shuttered windows.
  • Some visitors to the Faerie Woods report a sense of unease when crossing the border. This is due to the aura of the place; most visitors quickly adjust to the aura and the feeling passes after a few minutes.
  • There is a powerful containment field around the part of the Faerie Woods known as Under-the-Hill, tuned to a specific creature.
  • The Faerie Woods is enchanted so as to make strangers lose their way within it. This enchantment is so profound that if one tries to leave a trail of objects to follow, additional objects will appear to confuse the way.
  • Inside the Faerie Woods, there is a ruined castle inside a clearing.
  • In another clearing in the Faerie Woods lives a powerful Ragewalker.
  • The walls of the ruined castle in the Faerie Woods are smashed to bits in places, with rubble everywhere. The footing is precarious. The ruined walls measure about 200 feet square.
  • The rubble field of the ruined castle extends 30 to 60 feet beyond the walls. There is a small cleared-off area in one corner by the remains of a makeshift lean-to.
  • In the corner of the ruined castle in the Faerie Woods where a lean-to once stood is a trap door in the ground.
  • Under the trap door in the grounds of the ruined castle in the Faerie Woods is a partially collapsed cellar, with a small tunnel leading off from one corner. The cellar stinks.
  • The tunnel leading from the cellar underneath the ruined castle in the Farie Woods is so small that even a halfling would have to crawl down it on his belly.
  • A druid named Fasroth dwells in a cottage at the edge of the Farie Woods.
  • There is a place in the Faerie Woods known as the Crystal Gardens.
  • The Crystal Gardens in the Farie Woods is a place filled with flowers, ponds, birdsong, and small waterfalls.
  • A pair of unicorns can sometimes be found in the Crystal Gardens in the Faerie Woods.
  • An enchanter named Trimble lives in a cottage not far from the Faerie Woods.
  • There are some large trees about 30 feet from Trimble’s cottage, with a larger clear area to the south.
  • The roof on Trimble’s cottage slopes from 12 to 20 feet high.
  • Trimble’s cottage near the Faerie Woods has a door in the south wall and a window in each of the other three walls.
  • The entrance to Under-The-Hill in the Faerie Woods is a seemingly innocent depression in the side of a hill. Upon stepping in it, one is transported to the interior of a fantastic palace.

Adventure - M3: Nurlan & Mordick (Patlin judging)

This was another side thread for part III of Manzanita's Monemvassia series. Mostly, it gave us a few more details about the town of Three Rings, south of Monemvassia.

  • "A short distance" to the northwest of Abraham’s Inn in Three Rings is the Theater of the Mystic Celebration.
  • A sign on the door of the Theater of the Mystic Celebration in Three Rings states that shows begin at 7 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • The stage at the Theater of the Mystic Celebration in Three Rings has curtains and a trap door.
  • The manager’s office at the Theater of the Mystic Celebration in Three Rings is a small room with a cluttered desk and three chairs for visitors. Various show props hang on the walls.
  • The economy of Three Rings consists of farming and fishing.
  • There is a large temple of Delanor in Three Rings, and a statue of Delanor at the docks.
  • The road south of Three Rings is less used as it leads to forests and swamps.

Oh, the proposal passed.

Proposal - PRC - Pheonix Disciple

This was a prestige-class proposal that had absolutely no geographical references in it.

It looks like the proposal was just forgotten...not voted up or down, and hardly resolved as to how it should be changed to gain approval.

Another pure rules proposal, with no geographical flavor (unless you insist that boomerang wielders necessarily belong in an "Australian" subregion of EnWorld).

This one passed.

Adventure - IA: Thurgan and Krug

This was the second side adventure spun off from Immortality Awakens, about a pair of dwarves struggling to catch back up with the main party. They had some adventure along the way...

  • "Two days out of Orussus" at dwarf speed on the southeast road (the road to Fallon) lies a small hill. Several hours northeast of that lies a cave.
  • The "cave" 2-3 days out from Orussus to the southeast is an opening in the side of a hill. A tunnel leads inward, and curves after a distance.
  • After the bend in the tunnel that forms a cave 2-3 days southeast of Orussus, the passage widens into a large spherical cavern.
  • In the large spherical cavern in the cave 2-3 days southeast of Orussus lies an upper ledge that cannot be reached from the entrance.
  • In the large spherical cavern in the cave 2-3 days southeast of Orussus there is a tunnel on the far wall from the entrance tunnel.
  • Some distance down the tunnel opposite the entrance tunnel to the cavern in the cave 2-3 days southeast of Orussus is a disabled trap of dwarven make.
  • Down the tunnel opposite the entrance tunnel to the cavern in the cave 2-3 days southeast of Orussus is a second chamber with a ruined workshop and forge. There is a stonework trigger in the room that once activated some kind of trap.
  • A small tunnel in the back of the room with the ruined forge in the cave 2-3 days southeast of Orussus leads to a small room with a well, once used as a larder.

Adventure - Murder is the Pits

This was a typical Kahuna Burger adventure: Long on character development, plot and action, relatively short on geographical details. Since it was set in the gladiator pits of Earling, however, some location info was forthcoming:
  • There is a banking house in Earling.
  • The arena in Earling has betting rooms, animal pens, a sand-floored main arena, and gladiator barracks. A portion of the barracks for those who were forced into slavery against their will is set aside and guarded to prevent their escape.
  • A gong, loud enough to be heard throughout the barracks of the arena of Earling, is used to wake the gladiators at the start of each day.
  • At least one section of the "voluntary" barracks in the arena at Earling is large enough to house 11 gladiators.
  • The main floor of the arena at Earling is large enough to accommodate two separate 100-foot circles simultaneously.
  • There is a temple inside the arena building in Earling. Gladiators light candles and pay their respects to the gods there.
  • There is a mortalist hospice in the shopping district of Earling.
  • The barracks area of the arena in Earling has a common room.
  • The arena in Earling has spaces for offices for the managers or owners of the gladiators.
Finally, there is some information that was supplied by one of the PCs (background into that had nothing to do with Earling):
  • There is a place in EnWorld called Big Sky Country. And in Big Sky Country is a location called Black Rock.
