"Ok, I would say using a ranged weapon is a two hand job"
If you are using a bow with arrows, then for both hands to be in use, it must be assumed that you have an arrow in one hand (otherwise, why would both your hands be in use?). If so, then why couldn't you use the arrow as a melee weapon? (Reminds me of the scene from Lord of the Rings, when Legolas had an arrow in hand, stabs an incoming Orc, then immediately loads the same arrow and fires it at another Orc
