has any of this occured to anyone?
1. yes, when using the bow, it is considered to be used two handed, which is why you cannot use a shield, but, generally, one holds the bow itself in the offhand, and that generally leaves your primary hand free when not firing... one can wear a spiked guantlet even while firing the bow, but one would that that while not firing, i.e. other initiative counts, he could be threatening the area around him, because he is technically also armed for melee... it takes less than 1/2 a second to throw a punch....
2. there have been arguments that you cannot use the quickdraw feat to make attacks of opportunity, which is right when the attack would normally be provoked, but one could technically use quick draw to draw the melee weapon at the end of their count, as to threaten the area around them, then at the beginning of his next count, they could sheath as a free action, fire the bow, then again quick draw as a free action to threaten the surrounding area...
not saying that this is the absolute way of things, just playing devil's advocate....
