What's sad about it is that three people died, and that their reasoning simply reinforces a negative image upon our hobby and culture.

Well, the fact is that they are, indeed, idiots. If this guy hadn't been killed over a roleplaying game, he probably would have gotten killed taking another hobby too far.

The sad thing is three people died, two criminals are trying to use RPGs as a means of lightening their sentences (by claiming temporary instanity) and at least two laws have been proposed in the state of Espirito Santo (where Guarapari is) banning the selling and advertising of RPG-related books and magazines.

The confessed killers claimed that one of them was the Gamemaster, the other played a lawyer and the killed gamer played a cop. I wonder what system they used, since the only books found were AD&D 2e (the black cover ones), Shadowrun and the such.

The article fails to state that the killers drugged the three people killed with sleeping pills, took ATM cards, went to a local ATM to withdraw about US$2000 from the younger victim, and took computers and other stuff.
