Throwing Adamantine Mace at a Trapped Door

Quidam

First Post
The trap is set to go off if someone touches it. Throwing a weapon that's not intended for throwing only affects the attack roll, the damage remains unchanged.

Would hurling an adamantine weapon at a trapped door be an effective way of passing the challenge, or did I, as the DM, overlook something?

As an aside, is there any problem with targetting area spells in squares that have total concealment?

If the trap goes off if something touches it, throwing an adamantine mace (or throwing a rock, or poking with a long pole, etc.) should work.

Nope.

I think a good example of a touch trigger is the standard mousetrap.

If you touch the catch, it will trigger the trap. Your trap may look different, but that's effectively how a touch trigger works.

You have line of effect, so no problem.
"You can’t attack an opponent that has total concealment, though you can attack into a square that you think he occupies."

Then the way to get past this trap is to turn into mice, which in my experience have an innate ability to evade mousetraps...even while stealing the bait.

Your trap DC was too easy.

Hitting the door with a weapon will not set off the trap whether it was thrown or held. Someone is a creature, not an object.

Of course, if you intended to write something, you should have said so. In that case, yes, it will overcome the challenge. ;)

What trigger type is "someone touches it"? Proximity?

As they age, mice seem to pick up rogue levels....

:\ Touch?

"A touch trigger, which springs the trap when touched, is one of the simplest kinds of trigger to construct."

Seems that the easiest type of trigger to construct wouldn't be able to differentiate between a touch of a character from that of a stick or rock.
